I did my part for the world of Mashburn. I'll let the newer and younger guard take over with the next roll. Oh Tanner... Dober I'd honestly love to twist one up and give it a good wringing out, but the only way I'll ever do up a .270 Mashburn is if we start seeing bright red boxes stamped 'Hornady A-Max' with '.277" 155gr' underneath. I just like to shoot past 5-600 too often to not want a big sleek nasty wind slicker.

I've been shooting my 270 weatherby with 150 VLD's a lot the last few months..the sumbish flat gets it done. Thats not saying I place it above my 7mm, but honestly if i need more it aint the 7 that i reach for..its a 30-378 shooting a 230 VLD or a 338 shooting 300's..they just aint fair to the others. Pretty sure I could hunt a 270 win the rest of my life and not be left wanting..hell most of the time i'm shooting barnes while hunting..just going by what i read here i shouldnt be able to kill a damn thing.. But hunting is not shooting..and hunting a 270 would just be boring.

I figure a tight spun .277 w/heavies might 'Get R Done' on out yonder, w/less punch on the shooters clavicle, still bagging meat.
No, JOC's baby is highly capable in it's own right, though proper bullets and twists have been the only barrier to keeping it's own WAY out there, w/7s and 6.5s.

I don't ever shoot beyond 450y so I have no opinion re true LR shooting.
But I think the point that is often glossed over, is that 3000fps with 150g bullets is very achievable in a 270 Win with a 24 inch barrel.
Some people get more and I have personally worked up to 3025 in load development with nice cloverleaf groups and no case stress.
With my self imposed 400 odd yard limit I usually just keep MV around the 2950 fps range, but I am guessing an Accubond LR at 3000+ fps would be a good compromise mountain/plains - medium to LR outfit.
And I think that's where the 270 sits, one of the better if not the best compromise hunting cartridges.
Kind regards, - Bob

I just like to shoot past 5-600 too often to not want a big sleek nasty wind slicker. That right there is the reason I dislike .277s so much. I hunt 10 weeks a year, but shoot 52. So my guns need to hunt as well as shoot way out there. Now most .27 lovers will say 'just order up a box of 150 VLDs'. But why pay 59.99$/100 when7mm 162 Amax's run 34.99$/100 up here and have better numbers? Now like Tanner said...if Big Red ever makes a box labelled ".277 cal Amax"....then the convo will change
If I were smart enough, which apparently I'm not

Now like Tanner said...if Big Red ever makes a box labelled ".277 cal Amax"....then the convo will change There are so many 270 rifles out there.... like soooo many, you'd think that bringing in a 277 cal Amax would be a given. A great chance of being a sales success. I suspect its just a matter of them not being able to get one heavy enough to be worth it to stabilise in a 1-10 barrel. I can't believe they haven't examined the proposition.

Big red is known to pay attn: to shooters needs/wants..
Bobnob- my old 270 loads were 52/IMR4350 for 2850 IIRC w/150PTs, not fast but stem to stern on a Mulie at near 300 yds, needed about 1-2" more to exit the hind end....
Better powders no doubt for the 150s. I think if you combined cheap/free range brass w/an AMAX considering their pricing, it would be another option for LR guys. Now if the industry would spin factory tubes like 7s....

You figure correct. 169 gr wildcats through a 270 AM (7RUM necked down with shoulder blown forward) at 3300 fps hammers stuff. BTW the 150s will stabilize in a factory remington even at 200 above seas level.

I shoot lots of Amaxs in 6.5 and 7mm and like them..But find their BC a bit bloated. Seems the .590's is where i end up in several different rifles. Bergers seem to hold true to what they put on the box..

If the BC of the 162 is .590...... then I'm shooting them 3250+ out of a few 7RMs....
IME.... the Amax has run right close to advertised.... and I've found .650 to be much closer to actual for the .7mm/162.... though Litz's findings were closer to .600 also....

NOW THATS SOME FUNNY DOGSHITTING RIGHT THERE!"! Your rifle suddenly produces 50 BC more than anyone else. It must be an Ackley Improved? Shod

You're welcome to come out and do a little actual shooting Shod, straighten me out a little .... I'd certainly value your experience..... Here's the chart.... actually shot and verified for the Sendero 7RM running 162s at 3100.... you can do the BC math for me.... 29.5 is the actual avg barometric pressure.... you'll need that too.... Chart works pretty decent too.... last week... Week before....

And just for fun, these are the last two 3-shot groups fired with the 162 (I know, I know- they're not 5 or 10 shot groups, so they don't mean much): 7lbs 1oz, all up.

You find funny things when you shoot a bunch of something, DS ain't full of it. I have run across a few anomalies. Most try to explain them as inaccurate scope click values, ranging inaccuracies, or inappropriate sight height measurements, I do not have a clue why those happen. I do know that is is the main reason why I actually do the shooting to get actual drop data.
