Is Triple 7 hygroscopic or does it degrade over time?

Not like Pyrodex, but T7 should last a long time if stored properly.

The only BP powders that last forever is real BP and BH 209.

I have had it degrade, not as bad as pyrodex.I keep the bottle in a plastic sealed bag and then in a sealed ammo can.

Best thing to do is every hunting season, throw out the old and buy a new bottle.Saves chasing gremlins.

As long as it is stored in a cool dry place and in it original container it will last as long as you will

I bought a chitload of T7 about 5 years ago, been trying to get it shot up so I can switch to BH-209 for my inline.

As of last fall it still delivered enough accuracy and consistency to take an 8pt WT at [IIRC] nearly 190 yards, it's good stuff.

Most powder stay good for quite a bit as long as they are in a suitable container. Nearer to full the better and a container swap a roo to do so worthy of the time.

They're trying to sell Pyrodex, because I don't believe that for a second. Nothing will rust your bore faster than Pyro.

my 777 would not fire after being vacuum sealed all summer, they replaced and said they were sorry for the problem. to me 777 powder and primers are total garbage. 777 primers were supposed to be very clean when they came out when infact they are the dirtiest i've ever shot.

I've used Pyrodex that was 20 years old. It worked fine. I have some unopened 777 that is pretty old. I'll have to try it.

I've some 777 that is opened and 10 years old. Still goes bang and makes velocity.
I have seen some clumping on flasks I use for carry the following year.

all i'm sayin is what i was told by tech support at hodgon. that it draw moisture easier then pyrodex. i think all of it is outdated with the new stuff we have now to use.if i owned a gun that would shoot bh209 i'd shoot it. some guns just won't shoot it well or they are not designed for it.

I won't mention a name, because the person performing the test gets little respect, but at the time he was sponsored by Western Powder (BH 209). So, I can't see him favoring T7 over Pyrodex.

The test was for 60 months. He took new bottles of the powders, and ran loads through a crono. The he did the same thing in 6 mo on the same bottles. All the powders did well, except Pyro. It lost almost 200fps. I'm not sure if absorbing moisture is the cause of powder losing power. I do know Pyro will rust your gun faster than any powder i've used.

Pesonally, i'd never hunt with old Pyro. What's the big deal of buying a new bottle every year? $19? Cheaper than a box of most CF ammo. Is $19 is going to break your hunting budget?
