Anyone have any experience with a 257caliber based off of a 308 case? I have heard of a 25 Souper??? or something along those lines. I have a 22-250 AI that is due a barrel replacement and would like to try something a little different. How would it compare to a 260 AI? Thanks for any info.

What kind of velocity can I expect with a 100gr TSX/TTSX. Any feed issues (700 action). Are you necking 243 brass up or 260 brass down?
Thanks a bunch

i did build the sporter on a 700. one of the reasons for the 30 deg shoulder was for feeding. i had heard, at the time, about ackleys not feeding so good. mine feeds butter smoth. cant tell the dif if it was a 243.. i use 7mm08 brass mostly but did some 243 and they worked ok also. you see when i did this 260 wasnt out yet. with 100 gr bullets and lighter i was getting the same vol as my buddys 25-06. i havnt located my load data book yet. but when i do ill give you some real data from all my testing.. the main reason i built this was because i was so impresed with the performance of 257 roberts on the big Neb whittails. thought i wanted a short action light weight with the same effect. and it has been a great sucess. my main deer load is with hor 117. my coyote load is 100 nosler. best thing about it is its the perfict powder cap for 25 bore. its the most accurate and forgiving cal i have.. every one i have built have been deadly accurate.

in a factory 260 Barrel, ( 22 inches, Ruger action) I run 100 grain bullets at 3350 fps... compare that to factory 25/06 fodder...24 inch barrel on another rifle, and it will add 50 fps... in a 26 inch barrel it adds another 50 fps, for an MV of 3450 fps...
I have 6 chamberings in 260, with barrels from 22 inch to 26 inch..all but one have a one in 8 twist...

A 25-08 Improved is going to have really similar case capacity to a 257 Roberts. Why bother with the extra expense?

Just a quick look but some of the OAL's were a little long for a Remington SA mag box. This was for handloads and I don't know where factory ammo comes in. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

.25 caliber bullets compared to 6.5 bullets....really not even close.
Go with a .260. Just My opinion.

I've always wanted to do a .25-08 AI, but given the available bullets, the .260 or .260 AI is a more practical choice. Go .260 AI. You can still smoke 100s out of it if you want to...

There are so many good high BC bullets for the 6.5 that I would stick with the 260 or even 243 for that matter... Unfortunately, bullet companies have left the .257 behind for the most part.

There are a couple of wildcats based off the 243, but with the front end of the 6xc. One each, I believe in 6mm and 6.5mm. YOu can read up on them by doing a google of 6mmslr and 6.5mmslr. Formed by running the brass of your choice through a FL die. I'd be surprised if no one has done a .257 version..... Kaiser Norton

all things concidered we dont need any of it. all we need is a good old 30-06 it has killed every critter on the planet.. but thats not the point in a wildcat. i thought about a 6.5-08 before the 25 but the 260 wasnt out yet and bullets were scarce. and also didnt meet the criteria i was trying to acheave. a short action 257. i wanted a true dual purpose cartrage. the reason the factories skiped the 25 was the popularity of the 243 and 25-06. 257 rob right in between. its covered. for that matter there isnt much need for the 260 with the 7-08 beeing so fine a carteradge.

Evidently over the need for spelling and punctuation.....let alone "carteradges".

I'd likely take a .260/7mm-08 over all previously mentioned 25's, and only because I own one. Living in the West where it can indeed get a little windy at times, I've come to appreciate the hunting bullets with a nice BC. The 115 Berger seems to do decently, though.
