I'd rather hit "slow" than miss fast.

I have but very little experience with monometal bullets, but my custom barreled winchester 25-06 is always ~200 fps below what barnes lists as velocities for given loads.

And by the same token, loads with hornady, and nosler BTs and PTs are about at book indicated velocities, or within reasonable expectations. (same rifle)

I think that some barrels just do not do well with monometal bullets.

And unless i hunted where monometal was my only legal option, i figure there's better choices anyway...

I just purchased the Magneto speed in november and have just started using it, I had not loaded anything for the 25-06 BUT was able to get out this weekend with my .338 WM, all loads are within 80 fps of what Barnes Data had posted for the .225 TSX. Hopefully I can get some time off to load up mu 25-06 and .270 with eTips to see now hand loads match up against the Nosler factory ammo that seemed so slow.

FWIW in regards to hitting, its not so much the speed you hit at, but where you hit at. For drop issues, thats covered by your firing at known distances and having a drop chart and using a rangefinder or some type.

Windage is generally the killer but since most don't shoot past 300 and most don't have any business shooting past 300, as long as you know if its a stiff wind you need to lean into it in some manner, life will generally be ok.

RE magneto Chrony... a buddy just bought one, has yet to test but when he does I"ll get back to ya'll on that one. Its right down the road so to speak so he thought he'd try it. No screens to blow up etc... I know he'll run it with proven rimfire match ammo first to "verify" it and we'll go from there..

We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

Velocity is fine, but accuracy is final

Guys -

I've read this whole thread up to BobNH.

1. I'd verify my chronograph using 22LR and other KNOWN loads. Check against other graphs IF possible.

2. I'd SWITCH every loading component.
...(brass, powder, primer, & BULLETS).

On occasions, I have lost TOO much velocity from JUST 1 component.

IMO--IMO- 350fps is too much.

IMO--IMO fast cartridges OUGHT to be fast. 25-06, 270, et.al.

I don't slow dance.

YMMV
