Was up at the range after installing a scope on a Belgium H Dumoulin to find out that the Mauser safety hits the scope so I couldn't even open the bolt to load it, great way to start off the afternoon.

Then I pull out the Savage model 7, the click clack gun. Load up the mag and squeeze the trigger and it fires, take the second shot and she goes full auto! Thats strange. So I load up the mag again, first shot fine, second shot full auto. Stopped at the gunshop to talk about the safety on the Dumoulin and told him about the Savage and he asks how I was gonna fix it from going full auto. I said "fix it, are you crazy"? Most fun I had all afternoon!

Good story.....The Savage sounds like a real blast...I don't think it needs fixed.....

Down here in the US of A the Feds would hang ya for having a full auto , even if it's unintentional.

Not real sure what the problem would be though. I know with the model 6's and 7's that after you fire if you hold onto the trigger the bolt won't close and load the next shell until you release the trigger. Thats why they got the name click clack I think cause it fires making a clicking noise on the way back and then when you release the trigger it makes the same clacking noise on the way forward. I believe it cocks on the way forward as well.

I'm thinkin' that maybe your sear is dicked up. Send me a pic so I can make mine look the same.

Also tried googling up this Dumoulin, holy crap, didn't think they were worth that kind of money, I was just about to hack off one of the safeties (there are two), best be taking it to my gunsmith. It belongs to one of the old boys in the deer camp and he wanted the over under mounts and Tasco scope taken off and replaced with something better. Put a set of Millett mounts and rings on it and a Redfield Lo-pro cause his eyes are getting bad and he wanted something with a wider field of view. Can't wait to tell him what the thing is going for on the net these days.

I had a neighbor going full auto late one night. Cops flat out told me they weren't coming out that night for sure, or tomorrow. When I told them I was shooting back if one single bullet came my families way well you should have heard the list of charges I was in line for! Worthless. Anything goes in Southern Oregon.

Apparently there are two sears, one upper, one lower. These plungers sometimes get stuck and cause the full auto, maybe she just needs a cleaning.

Bushwacker, GeneB, Mad dog, let use know if you get the problem corrected and how.

The two sears are a front and a rear, both spring loaded (I think, it's been awhile since I went over these).

With the trigger released the front sear is lowered and the rear is raised - with the trigger pulled it's the opposite. When you pull the trigger the hammer is released and the front sear is raised, this is what catches the bolt to hold it open - the hammer at this point is slightly behind the rear sear which is disengaged (lowered). When the trigger is released the front sear lowers releasing the bolt, at the same time the rear sear is supposed to raise enough to catch the hammer before it slips by.

You could be looking at wear, a stickey spring on one of the sears or something else that is messing up the engagement, or the timing. The trigger has to be held after firing to keep the front sear up where it can catch the bolt or the action might cycle to fast for the rear sear to catch the hammer - also when releasing the trigger it has to be done fast enough to allow the rear sear to raise to catch the hammer.

I would load only one or two rounds and see where the bolt is after firing before releasing the trigger & then watch it as you release the trigger at different speeds.

PS the original design was not a 'clackety clack' - it used a similar double sear but it only acted on the hammer with the front catching and holding the hammer at a point slightly behind the engagement point of the rear sear. This design was not used very long and probably had more issues with the timing and engagement then the new design. Parts for the first design were not offered and the parts catalogs had a price noted for rewoking exsisting guns to the later design.

On the general topic of full auto, I recently saw a video of a British Webley-Fosbery "semi-auto" revolver going full auto with modern .455 ammo. Apparently the Fiocchi ammo is just powerful enough to cycle it, but doesn't make the cylinder recoil far enough to lock it between rounds. Result: BRAAAAAAP. All gone.

I'm sure there aren't enough W-Fs on the Board to make it a BEEG proh-blem, as my Costa Rican friend would say.

Since you're the 'guy' with the detailed photos, I'll ask you where the serial no. typically appeared on the Model 6As'. My variation is that of the third gun down from the top in your first picture. I can find two patent nos. just forward of the frame on the starboard side of barrel but no serial no. anywhere I'm looking?! It is a 'gill gun' that states it can shoot all three ammo sizes...just LR for semi-auto, though. Just curious is all.

They are not serial numbered.

Some have as many as 5 patents listed on them.
