BCR, That is a hell of an idea, but if we get rid of them, then we wont have anything to shoot in the off season

Boggy, we have heard the hog cholera story before. I'd be up for it, but I think that everyone is afraid it would end up in some population it wasn't supposed to be in. Anyone with domestic hogs could have some risk.
Rost, I don't know where you are hunting them but I have them in wheat fields. Buckshot would get you about halfway to them. Twice I have killed two hogs with one shot, but for the most part when there are thirty strung out in 100 acres you are going to get one good shot. I always kill the biggest sow. I am sure not the best shot in the world and I may need some more education in shooting but I haven't watched anyone yet out shoot me on hogs. I am sure lots of guys could, but no one has proved it yet. You might be able to kill 2 or 3 hogs with that first shot regularly, but I don't know anyone else that even seriously considers it a proven skill.
As far as eating them, they're OK. I have a hard time getting excited about eating them since I saw several of them crawl into the belly of a dead, rotting heifer and eat. I had to circle out 150yds away because the smell was so bad to shoot one. The next day the remaining pigs had eaten the one I killed.
I often have friends out to hunt them, but it is more work than it is worth. The hogs won't come to the feeders until the middle of the night and then they will skip around. So we end up down in the creeks kicking them out. Half the time I'll be the only one to kill one.
Tough problem.

No words of mine can hope to convey to you the ringing joy and hope embodied in that spontaneous yell: The Americans are coming; at last they are coming!
I hadnt the heart to disillusion them.

Guys, guns and hunting will not solve the pig problem. I hunt everyday in the middle of them and they are too smart. Out of a group of thirty or so if you are sharp you can kill one. If you are double sharp and can shoot on the run you can kill two. Then you won't see them for two or three weeks. At three litters a year and 7 or 8 piglets per litter you just can't keep up.
We would poison them if we could. A bright guy with a solution could make money..
SS I've only read about these, but a couple of days ago, even in TAX HELL WISCONSIN, I had a neighbor of mine shoot one that was lurking around his pig pens.. There was a pix of it on the local news stations. I couldn't believe it. Never knew that type of animal was even IN this state.. I'm sure Madison is figuring out how to add a 'fee' to it...

Illegal border crossers? 'yotes? Armadilloes? Crows? I've shot my share of yotes, dillos and crows. Now the border crossers might be something new. DT

Back to the original post. Mmm, let's see a half a million dollars ... now just how much RE15 & 120 grain TSX's would that buy?
I've heard about the ones up here in WI as well & have always wanted to hog hunt. Now I guess I can do it without the roadtrip.

The state needs to put a bounty on them. That would mean the demise of lots of hogs!!!!!!!!

One of the newer members here has the same one. I saw it the other day and thought I didn't reply to this post, then I realized it wasn't me.
