.........down at the brand new Super WalMart, a few blocks from the casa. They opened their doors for the first time at 8 AM today.
I stopped in to check the store out, and pick up a loaf of bread. I went by the sporting goods department, and was astounded by the crowd at the ammo counter.
There were, no scheit, over 100 good old boys in line, and the store had not been open 20 min yet!
They had the place set up like Disney World, with those crowd control lines, and lots of store employees helping keep things under control.
Amazing, to see the panic in folks eyes, the sense of urgency, as they grabbed some of this, and some of that.
All the .45 auto, 9mm and .40 S&W was GONE. I over heard one of the managers saying that they were going to have to limit purchases.
At least they are stocking rifles, shotguns and ammo in this new store. The other one, across town, does not stock guns, just ammo.
Prices were ok. New Ruger American rifles, various calibers, were selling for $357. No takers though, everyone there was buying boolits. laugh

well.....

maybe it because of added phrases (which don't need to be added) to threads like a soldier's return home.

So you can't ignore things and just have to escalate them? Isn't that what got you into the problem in the first place?

We've got a new Cabela's Outpost Store opening on Feb 14th. I'd be willing to bet people will start lining up 24 hours in advance...

I don't even open any Cabela's catalogs that hit my mailbox. With their pricing being what it is, their catalogs go straight to the trash can.

I'm surprised Gander Mountain has survived this long. Thing is there's a GM within a quarter mile of Cabela's.

I'm familiar with that GM, AJ. So the new Cabela's is going to be near it?

This is the 4th or 5th gun/ammo panic I've seen since the mid-90's. I was inconvenienced by the first couple (couldn't get enough primers to load my summer IDPA ammo supply), but I was able to get the ammo I needed at gouge-level prices so all it cost me was a bit more money. I started making sure I had a modest inventory of components and ammo on hand after that, though.

When the .223/5.56 shortage hit in 2006, I decided to start keeping a bit more loaded ammo on hand...

Gander Mountain sucks the big one, I'd take Cabela's any day over them. That said, I'd take Sportsman's Warehouse over Cabela's.

Three weeks ago a local Walmart had 4 boxes of Federal Premium 30.06 Barnes Triple Shock 165-gr sitting all by themselves in the ammo-case. People were looking at them and walking away, I snapped-up all 4 boxes (normal price) and the clerk said that would probably be the last of those for the foreseeable future.
