I have a couple of 9.3x62's, one I built, one I traded for.

I have accumulated several different type bullets to try, sighted them in with 270 gr. Speers. I would think a real soft bullet would be needed to keep from punching a clean hole thru a whitetail.

Those who have used this round on whitetails, what are your favorite bullets? And, you can throw in your favorite loads as well...

DF: I dont even shoot a 9.3 but I'm guessing any bullet that shoots good in your rifle would be the one for whitetail...

Well, I don't think I'd want a TSX or hard bullet for that sized animal, lest it just poke a hole and I end up long range tracking. In that case, even a .270 may be more effective...

250 accubond.

Screw that, get a big rock and wait for the deer to walk by you. If you can throw find a baseball sized rock and throw it at it's head...

The leak factor would be very high with just about anything in 9.3. I've been shooting TSX's, TTSX's and Accubonds (all 250's) and would shoot a whitetail with any of them.

A .277 bullet might expand to .366 but I doubt it.

I use a 286 NPT over IMR-4320.
So far Its been 100% DRT on deer.

x2 on the 250 grain Nosler Accubond!

I've got quite a few different 9.3 bullets on hand, but only used one to perforate deer........Nosler 250 gr BT. The bullet that replaces the BT will be the Nosler Accubond. 5 deer and 1 black bear put down with the BT.

Yeah, I would doubt that, too. I think they actually bounce off stuff...

I have rendered many deer sized African antelope ready for the frying pan with 250 TSX's.

Start down that path and you are doomed forever.

The scrawney 100-150lb max Texas sized WTails I've used my CZ 9.3 & 270gr Speers over 59 gr's of RL15 & WLR's on have all had nice clean SMALL pass thru's with wall to wall jelly in between ...caliber sized entry's I frequently have to part hair to find, and quarter+ sized exits.

First critter down was a mature spike with knobby 9" singles on both sides that got a 35 yard "magic carpet ride" back up the game trail he exited from...with no meat damage at all.

Got some left over 250gr BT's I bought years ago when I first got the gun right after they were Disc'd and just never got around to shooting them, as the Speers give me sub MOA groups with the RL15 load. Bought some Privi 285's 2 years ago & same song 3rd verse, so I'll need to stop buying the Cheap Azzed Speers or find something bigger to hunt I guess.

They are hard to find and expensive, but the best all around bullet I've ever dealt with in any caliber is the RWS H-Mantel. it gives the best of both worlds: rapid expansion and deep penetration.

The H-Mantel is a dual core bullet with a sharp "cutting" shoulder just in front of the cannelure. When it hits, the shoulder makes a very clean "cookie cutter" type hole. The front core is soft and rapidly fragments. The rear core is very hard and is designed so that it will not deform. This ensures that the second core will offer maximum penetration and exit from the animal. Upon exit, the shoulder again makes a very clean, circular hole that does not destroy massive amounts of meat or ruin the hide, but at the same time bleeds readily and makes tracking significantly easier(assuming the animal does not drop at the shot). The bullet is also extremely accurate (less than 1 MOA accuracy out of my Ruger M77)

I've shot a black bear, two white-tailed deer, an impala, and a zebra with my 9.3x62 shooting H-Mantel bullets. The shots on the black bear and the zebra both traveled over 30" and all of the bullets exited. Just as advertised, all of the animals had massive internal damage where the first core fragmented, but exhibited deep penetration by the second core and nice "clean" exit and entrance holes in the hides with minimal meat loss.

If I only had to have one rifle to hunt with for the rest of my life, it would be my Ruger M77 in 9.3x62 and I would use the H-Mantel bullets for everything smaller than an eland.

I only load one bullet in my 9.3x62, the 320 gr Woodleighs at 2400 fps, would be a hellacious plow at any angle for deer or anything else in N.A., and is also very accurate in my rifle.

I would go with the Accubond for deer

My experience same as yours. Even used the same load with the 270gr Speers. Very accurate for a big round and so far drops 'em on the spot.

Of course, it may not work on Texas white tails. I have no experience there.

The only thing I have killed with my 9.3s and 250 ABs are elk. However, I have taken a variety of animals ranging from impala to eland with a 260 AB in a .375 H&H. The impala dropped so fast that I thought that I had missed--I was looking everywhere for an opportunity for a second shot.
