I like your choices of Savage or Tikka.
Never had a savage that wouldn't shoot well.

Damn-that's nice!! Out of a hunting rifle and hunting bullets to boot-wonder what it can do with match bullets...
Mine goes a little over an 1" with both 150 accbnds and Grand slams @ 2950 max loads.
Never bothered for better as I was looking for max speed with acceptable accuracy, this is strictly a hunting rifle for me that gets carried a lot, if I can get hits inside 10-12" circle (kill zone) out to 3-400y, it's enough for me- hard to hold minute of angle in the field.
In answer to OP, I'd go with the 84m as well, seems to fit your criteria a little better in the weight department-I have two, one in 338 fed 1.5x5 vx3 with Leopold QR rings, with 5 rounds and sling @6.5 lbs and the other in 308 2.5x8x 36 vx3, all up @6.25lbs.
Good luck in your search I'm sure you'll be happy any way you go.

Our Moose Hunt this past Fall proved to me that I need a lighter Rifle. Not the 7 lber., which is easy to find or even the 6.5. I needed something with glass and rings to be at 6.5 or under.

Savage's offering is just plain Ugly and I can't see a Ugly Rifle in my collection.
Remington's Model 7 was a favorite of mine for sure. Fits me well, but after glass and rings the weight is not there.
Kimber's offering at $1,150.00 and in wood, 1/12 twist and 22" was what I need for the next walking hunt.

Tikka was never in the fight, besides I am looking at American companies, not an Italian owned Fin.. Save your accuracy comments, I know they can shoot.

I have a Model 7 in 243, great choice. I just ordered a Browning X-Bolt 'Micro-Hunter' in 7mm-08, 20" barrel. That would be another option for consideration.

O.K., limited to USA options I'd lean to a Remington version, maybe Model 7.

The Tikka would be my choice. I want what suits my needs and taste the best. If it's not made in America then it's not. The most dependable rifles I've ever used have been Swedish Husqvarna's so I'd gladly try a Finnish Tikka.

I personally like lightweight Model 7's. For my 300 Savage, I used a 20" barrel. For the 6mm, 22":

I'd personally go 700 MTN of those. The Model 7 weighs near the same. Probably put you at 7.5lb all up, 'pending how you scope it. I've been itching to get one in .308 load the 155 Scenar, dial, and smile smile

Another Ruger would suit me fine.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

1st I canceled the Winchester order and now I just canceled the Kimber order. It's going to be a long wait for the Forbes Rifle, Thank God, my Gunshop understands my motive.

Marine Scout-Snipers are generally a three man team. The third man keeps guard over the Spotter and the Shooter to keep them safe while doing their job. A manual bolt action rifle with a high power scope isn't the weapon of choice to fight your way in or out of a Close Quarter's Battle. I'm sure it'll work when the threats are close. But an M4 or an M16A4 would be a better tool.
