So with the past 3 ammo frenzies progressively getting longer each time, Ive seen some trends; and Im wondering if others are seeing the same or similar?
At my local gun stores, if you want 9mm, .380, .45, or .223 youre pretty much hosed. Remarkably small lots of 7.62x39 can still be found at elevated prices; but you can actually get it. From a defensive use or SHTF standpoint, I remain convinced that handguns will be the most useful tools, so I watch such things.
Almost all revolver cartridges can still be had, generally at the same prices. The best thing going is .38 Special. Most .38 Special & +P seems to be completely unaffected to both price and availability. The magnums are all available. Surprisingly .44 Special and .45 Colt supplies are a bit tight, but if you scrounge you can typically find one of the two. For auto-pistol rounds, .40 S&W is surprisingly still quite available in my towncertainly not the greatest availability, but Im just impressed that its available at all. Predictably the less common rounds are now rather common at the gun stores. With a shelf completely empty, you still find .17 HMR, .22 mag, .25 ACP, .32 ACP, .32 Long, .32 H&R Mag, .38 S&W, .38 Special, .357 mag, .357 Sig, .41 mag, .44 Spec, .44 Mag, .45 Schofield, .480 Ruger. If we had a gun store in my hometown that carried .38 Super, I bet it would still be on the shelves, but no one here carries it.
This makes me really appreciate many of my other guns. Yes, I have a couple of .32 ACPs, and my .32 H&R Mag J frame will shoot all of the .32 handgun cartridges (ACP, S&W, S&W Long, H&R Mag). Same can be said for a .357 revolver. I dont think anyone thinks much about a .38 S&W as a defensive cartridge, but its really nice to know you have a gun that can shoot it in a pinch.
Of course, much of this can be completely averted if you just stock up on your primary calibers when the opportunity presents itself; and it will. This rush on ammo will abate, just like the others, so have faith, relax, and well see ammo on the shelves again.

Local Walmart has common rifle calibers only. No pistol. No rimfire.
I've been sitting on some gift cards to blow at the first hint of some 22 magnum, and they sit idly in my wallet...

Locally, PMC is available in most calibers. Gold Dot too, in limited quantities. Otherwise, not much else. Finding anything Hornady or Federal is a Quixotic endeavor.

Locally, you can find just about anything but .22 and .223/5.56 but depends on what it is and where it is, the price maybe 2x, 3x, or more that it should be.
The "big stores" like walmart, bass pro, sportsmans stay sold out because they are not jacking up prices on anything
Kevin, I agree with your post on the other thread
I do not understand the insane buy out of .22LR
Only thing I can contribute to it is you have X number of people hording centerfire ammo, X number of people hording reloading supplies, and all of them combined are hording rimfire ammo, but like you said, its the last dang thing to EVER be regulated and as it looks right now, nothing is going to be regulated at all, even magazines

We're short of 357Mag and 9mm but have a decent supply of everything else.

Was in Cabelas in Rapid City last week. They had some 9mm & lots of 7.62x39. Only rimfire was 17 HMR of which they had plenty.

Was in a 'Bi-Mart' (regional mart here in the PNW) and asked if they had any 22LR in... No but got (too) long a story how it's (ammo) starting to come in, yes they had three boxes of .223 come in last week! Wow things are really improving!

Local shop gets all primers but little powder, 45acp is fine, 45 colt, 2box/customer 9mm, then rest of space filled with random off-the-wall chamberings in low demand. Had .380 last week, now gone again.

I can't help but feel sorry for anyone who doesn't reload. If I had to depend on factory ammo to satisfy my shooting cravings I think I would go nuts or broke. The only factory stuff I have bought within the last year is .22 or .17.
I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

It's probably the most owned caliber of a rifle or handgun in America. I would guess that is why.

Our local range had quite a few 100 round boxes of Winchester 45 ACP ammo in stock last Saturday. Last time at Walmart, they had a good supply of 45 ACP and 40. Not much 9mm.

At the local Academy, they filled the empty space with .38 Special, .357 mag and .45 long Colt. That is about all you can get.

In Billings you can get everything but .22lr, 9mm and .223. Just about everywhere has .40 and .45 ammo. I guess this is a good example of not being locked into any particular caliber and having some flexibility.

the ammo locker at Casa Mannlicher is fully stocked, with all calibers that I have firearms for. Most calibers are stocked in multiple flavors. Shortage? what shortage?

Rifles mostly available(anything but .223 and .308) Shotguns readily available .22's, get real
Academy gets their shipments on the shelf Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings when the store opens. The sales guy says there is usually a line 20 deep when they unlock the doors and all the 9/40/45/22 is gone within the first 30 minutes.

At my LGS they are getting small lots of .223/5.56 but you can only buy two boxes at a time. No .22LR or 9mm but .40 is plentiful, .45 auto is around also. The .357 and .44 mag are rare, .38 special not too had to find.
The places I shop online reflect the same, no 9mm, limited .45,some .40 no good .357 or .44 mag,no .223/5.56 or .22LR.

We are good here with the exception of 9mm & 223, trickle of .380 at best but there is some. Lots of the various .32 handgun stuff and 45 Colt & acp.
