I just aquired an older 700, 7mm win mag. It holds 3 in the magazine (hinged floor plate). It cycles the first two fine, but when it gets to pushing the last one, the cartridge often springs up out of the magazine before it can be controlled by the bolt and goes " cattywompered". it springs up prematurely out of the magazine. Sometimes it bounces out of the rifle altogether. Other times it binds at odd angles as the bolt tries to go forward. I,m wondering how hard this will b to fix. This problem happens every time I load just 1 in the magazine.

First thing to try would be to tweek feed lips inward slightly...
2. WAG---Shorten spring or compress(bend) it more????

After taking it apart, I noticed it doesn't have a magazine box. It's a hinged floor plate with a hogue stock aftermarket stock. I also noticed that the bottom of the follower spring can slide forward or backward by about 3/8's to half an inch.
Am I missing a magazine box and or should I order a new follower/ spring from someone??

If it is missing a magazine box, can I order one from somebody, and would it need to be modified, being its an aftermarket stock?

You can get one from Midway or Brownells. With the Hogue it should be a drop in fit.

I noticed on brownells website, they have long action, ultra mag, and short action boxes. I did not see a long action magnum. Is a regular long action what I need for a 7mm mag?
