I rented Doom last night. Given that it is coming from a video game, it wasn't bad. Think 'Aliens' crossed with 'Resident Evil'. With that in mind, it should be clear that this isn't going to be showing on American Movie Classics in 15 years.
Mindless shoot-em-up fun. 3.5 stars out of 5.
There are some gory bits, be warned.
tq

I give it 3.75 stars, just because you really can't get a movie with The Rock and have high expectations.
It had it's moments.....

I give it 3.75 stars, just because you really can't get a movie with The Rock and have high expectations... Au contraire! I thought Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) gave a very sensitive, understated performance. He established the essence of his character and the underlying pain motivating his externally manifested rage in very subtle ways, mostly by his amazing talent for raising one eyebrow at a time. Yeah, right. Yep, mindless shoot'em up. It needed some fireball throwing cacodemons, a few slobberstompers or whatever they're called - basically they were missing about 75% of the monsters from the game. It would have been a WHOLE lot better if they had found several gratuitous reasons for the girl to take off her shirt five or ten times. Edited to add: Not that mindless shoot'em ups are a bad thing!
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I thought Dwayne's movie remake of "Walking Tall" was ok/good. Actually Johnny Knoxville stole that flick.

I was definitely thinking that. I guess the wife has me trained, I automatically chose to not air that particular insight :-) tq

I play Doom on Ultra Violence, towards the end they had a good wresting scene without the ref to cue them.
Take care and have fun. Swany
