No,keep the original taper of the .300/.375 H&H case. It would be more like a .340 Wby,BUT,not blown out. Thinking around 2800 fps with a 250 grain bullet +/- from a 24" barrel. I don't believe you can go .338 with a .300 H&H case w/o blowing out the shoulder at least a little. The H&H has a narrow shoulder diameter to start with, less than that of a .30-06 from all appearances.
I am..........disturbed.

The .375 H&H has a smaller shoulder than the .300 H&H,would necking the .375 down be better?

Have one and that's not the point, keeping the taper for the same reason the .300/.375 H&H,ease of feeding, extracting and that no one else has done it.

Elky,
Unless you're hellbent on sticking with the I modified Holly case why not do Rick Bin's .338? Same performance in a 2.5" case...
Although, I perfectly understand the allure of the different...
Still like Keith's .338-74 idea on a single shot.
It ain't what you don't know that makes you an idiot...it's what you know for certain, that just ain't so...
Most people don't want to believe the truth~they want the truth to be what they believe.

[quote=DigitalDan] Well Dan,could the neck be .338" in length,do you think that would work? The .375 H&H has a smaller shoulder than the .300 H&H,would necking the .375 down be better? Sorta of a mind there be a couple or three good .338 rounds floating around already; the .338-06, .338 Win and .340 Roy. Choice to be made is how much joy one finds in the butt end of those things. Have read of lads doin' the AI thing to the .416 Rigby case and running 300 gr SMKs 3100-3200 fps out of 40" of pipe give or take. Awkward to lug around I reckon. I'm not going to say the .300 H&H base profile won't work, you only gots to sell you on the idea. FWIW, I've a friend with a Shilen DGAM in .338 Win. Flawless function, and the accuracy most only hope for, Mac classic handle. Has a 26" barrel and runs so close to 2800 fps w/250 grain bullets the spread is pointless. We worked a load with that one that had a consistent 5 fps spread for 5 shots. Consistent as in every time it shot over the chronograph.

I did...thanks for those...
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”
