Shag: I currently own 3 of the Deluxe models of Ruger 10/22's one of which has been extensively customized and a Lilja heavy stainless barrel added.
I love the little Rifles.
I think I bought my first 10/22 in 1966!
I have taken a LOT of Varmints and small game and game birds with the 10/22 during the past 45 years, including the following:
Coyote
Fox
Wild Turkey
Badger
Beaver
Jack Rabbit
Rock Chuck
Prairie Dog
Skunk
Weasel
Cottontail Rabbit
Tree Squirrel
Grouse
Ground Squirrel
Porcupine
Crows
Starlings
Carp
Rattlesnakes
feral cats
Raccoon

Someday I would love to harvest a Gray Fox with one of my 10/22's.
I think the Ruger 10/22 is one of the top rimfire designs of all time!
And as a comment on their accuracy which to me is an important aspect of my regard for any 22 Rifle, I am very happy with the over-all accuracy that I have obtained with my 10/22's.
They are getting a bit pricey these days but they seem to hold their value quite well.
The ingenious rotary (high capacity) 10 round magazine that fits FLUSH with the stock is one of the 10/22's greatest attributes (among many!).
The ONLY drawback that I have encountered and considered regarding the Ruger 10/22 over the last 4 1/2 decades is the fact that it is a semi-automatic and is probably not the best choice for teaching the brand new shooter or youngsters!
This can be "worked around" but takes absolute and continuous attention from the mentor to the young or new shooter.
I got around this with the four VarmintChildren by simply purchasing a single shot bolt action 22 "trainer" type Rifle.
Then after some time easing the new shooters into the world of high capacity magazine, semi-automatic repeaters.
Long live the Ruger 10/22.
Hold into the wind

Biggest thing I ever killed was about a 100 lb wild mutt dog looking thing one time with a Stinger.
Since then I've converted it to a .17hm2
I sold it too.
