Luckily it went just south of the apt I was living at the time. Was definitely a "pucker" thunderstorm....

About 9 or 10 years ago we had a huge auroral storm that produced a lot of red aurora - not just the bottom fringes, but the entire curtain. It was enough to turn the snow red. Simply stunning... there was a volcano somewhere in the world circa late 70's that made for some unreal sunsets down there.
