That was the base of a supercell T-storm and it was rotating like a spinning tire. It had dropped a tornado about 15 minutes earlier. Luckily it went just south of the apt I was living at the time.

Was definitely a "pucker" thunderstorm....

That's a great pic!

About 9 or 10 years ago we had a huge auroral storm that produced a lot of red aurora - not just the bottom fringes, but the entire curtain.

It was enough to turn the snow red.

Wish I had pics of THAT!

I wish I could produce sone New Mexico sunsets from back in the day. Simply stunning... there was a volcano somewhere in the world circa late 70's that made for some unreal sunsets down there. And things are epic enough as it is, there- throw in sunsets going purple and it was awesome.

Mt St Helens in Spring of '80 gave us some spectacular sunsets and sunrises for several months.

This was before that- my mom had just moved to eastern Washington right before that one uncorked, so I remember it well. So maybe mid-70's?

Great sunsets in western Oregon are rare...

I certainly can't claim to be an accomplished photographer. These aren't what come to mind when I think "words can't describe", but I'd much rather look at these type of pics....
