Naw, I crimp them into Rem 22-250 cases over Varget. With the 270's it don't matter, it is all magical.

I saw one Cooper at Cabelas that was in .22-250 AI, with 1:8 twist barrel. It sold before I could collect the funds. That seems like a combo that could flat make things happen.

Should be able to run 70-grain no problem. Our 14 twist does. Which 70 grain, the blunt Speer? I've had very good luck with those Speers in 22/250s over the years.

Downrange ballistics was the point. The reason that Speer can shoot in a slow twist is its short/blunt configuration resulting in a .214 BC. I'll take an 8" twist and a 75 Amax at .435 BC.

I used them for deer hunting, not long range shooting.

Ive used them too and at 'normal' deer ranges ( 300 yds and less) they work fine...
Not gonna shoot a deer much farther than that....

I bet they would still work for that in an 8" twist. Besides, that OP mentioned paper and steel which are often shot way out beyond 300 yards.

I have a faster twist barrel on one... a one in 7...
it will shoot the 75 and 80 grainers out to about 3350 fps out of a 24 inch barrel...
down side is that it can be hard on some of the lighter bullets when pushed to faster velocities...
I have 243s also... if one wants more flexibility out of a barrel with heavier bullets that are traditionally used for hunting and distance.... I think the 243 is a better option than a fast twist 22.250...
sadly the faster twist starts to specialize what it will do, and starts to limit all the bullet choices...
I would be without a 22.250, owning 5 of them but also trying to turn it into a 243 also, is expecting too much of it in my opinion 52 grain SMKs work well out of an 8 twist 22-250
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

Hi guys,
I'm looking to get my first 22-250. Would like a low-recoil bolt action for paper and steel, blacktail & mule deer, and something that my two kids could grow-up shooting.
Thinking about the 53gr TSX out of a 1-12 twist, with a fixed-6x and LRD. I have a spare 6x laying around. I know you two are fans of this bullet in the 22-250. Is this selling the 22-250 short? Or should I go faster twist?
What's your recommendation for my needs?
Thanks,
Jason
53 TSX is good. 55 and 62gr. TTSX is better. 75gr A-Max and an 8" twist will do waaay more than should be expected from a 22-250. Barrels are cheap. Get an 8" twist. Travis

I have had much succes with the 53gr TSX out of my 1:14 twist LVSF AND my 270's!
With no apologies to Ingwe of course.
When the current barrel goes south, I will probably go with a 1:12 or 1:10 twist. What on earth does a 1:10" twist do? Travis

Better than 12 and not as much as an 8. Do not ever plan on shootin super heavies/long bullets in my 22-250. Mainly used as deer/coyote/Mt Lion rifle. Not so much a rodent killer.
50-60gr is what I prefer. Tsx's, NP, or 55gr BT or Hornady's
