451whitwort - that sounds interesting. Can you post pictures. I've thought about milling down the rear base for a master mount and installing a generic flat bottomed Weaver base, or maybe an old Lyman tru-lock base as the their rings look similar to the Stiths. I have a rear Master mount that's a "bastard" because I don't have any of the other pieces. Pardon me, I don't mean to be running this thread off topic, but such a mount made up for holding a straight tube variable would look and work pretty darn cool on a 99.

What a pleasure to come to this board and read the above, a good humored poke at ourselves.

I'm not a collector. I'm an accumulator. Like many of you, I accumulate a lot of different types of rifles but I do have a particular affection for levers and the 99 in particular. I think I have about ten of them (I'm too lazy to go upstairs, open the safes and count tired).

That being said, I've been picking up Lyman Alaskans and All Americans when I can find them.

After searching fruitlessly for a 7/8" Stith a while back to put on an old 99 take down in 250, I discovered Lightfoot's mount. I bought one and mounted it on my rifle with an Alaskan. I am very pleased.

Have had this Shepherd 3x10 for many years, I love the one shot sight-in. Almost every rifle I own has worn this scope at one time or another. It has taken much abuse, since we live on a dirt road (3 miles of scrub-board) and is always dead on. Have many other name brand scopes and some cheapos, but whatever rifle I chose to hunt with next year will wear this scope.

Used this one this last season: 99F 284
