I just picked up a Savage 110 308 that must have been a safe queen. 90% would be conservative. Sn: 131XX, 11J in the circle, Chicopee Falls on the receiver. Would this have been made in 1958? Is this the first year the 110 was made?

Yep, sounds like a 1958 rifle. First year they were offered, iirc. Those early 110's are nice, aren't they?

A real beauty, this is the second one I've been lucky enough to find. The first one made it's way to our friend down the road in Lawrence. Real 50's quality, nice trigger pull even.

Thanks This is from a thread from when I bought my 110 from Jed. It has an "I" in the inspectors code which would indicate 1957. It's a 30-06. In 58, it was my understanding that only '06 and .270 Win. were offered. 4 digit serial number. Back in 1958 , you only had two choices - .270 WCF and the '06 Sprfld ..... IMO , you have the better of the two ( nothing against the .270 )

By the end of 1958 (around 16000, per Mad-Dog) Savage had added the .308 and.243. All used the same long action.

I have a four digit model 110 in 308 (95??), and it has the intermediate action length (4.5" action screw spacing)..., I think...now I'll have to dig it out tonight.
Yup, 9546 in 308 with intermediate action, 20J in circle next to the proof stamp on the barrel
