Update to my original post. I found a lightly used 30-06 Ruger 1A and got it set up with a Leupold VXII 1-4x20 after waiting a couple of months for some low ruger rings from Brownells.

I tested it out with factory Rem 180gr Cor-lokts the other day with 3 round groups averaging 1.5" @ 100. I plan on developing a load using 180gr Hornady Interlocks either round nose or spire points for the upcoming fall bear season.

As some of you noted this was really just an excuse to buy a No1 and I think this will work great for the intended purpose.

I shoot a .358 Norma Mag but I do a lot of clearcut hunting. I still like the 45 cal lever guns for tree stand work.
