I carry three cheap lights. A headlamp, handheld, and cap bill clip on type light. I was bear hunting with a friend and he had a one A cell surefire and a two AA cell surefire. I was amazed at how bright they were.

So who has what and what is the best with price in mind. I would say 50 dollars would be the top end for me. I saw a energizer tactical light that looked good.

this is the backpacking forum

we go light.....less

actually did that once on a sheep hunt, killed a ram late, thank god for a full moon, clouds not so much

I like a photon micro light 2

princeton tec scout headlamp

but that's for backpacking

just regular hunting I like the rayovac with red light, can't find them anymore

princeton tec blast, surefire, streamlight

and the micro light is always on me.

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

Zebralight.

One AA battery, very light and bright for the weight.

Have a Surefire in the truck, or for when weight's not an issue.

I'll be trying out a Princeton Tec Vizz this season for any night time hiking. Its rated as water proof to a limited extent for use in rain, but not underwater.

I have a Zebralight and it's great, but don't think $50 will get it. I've carried one of these daily for couple years and like it very much for about $20. http://www.inovalight.com/x/techspecs_x1.php

This is just a suggestion but keep an eye on Camofire for anytime they offer Fenix lights. You can get a great light for less than $50.00. I bought an LD22 for $20 less than list not too long ago and it operates on 2 AA batteries, which I'm always carrying anyway.

I'm using a $20-ish Coleman single LED light that uses 3 AAA batteries in a cartridge. Looks like the one I've got is discontinued now but it's pretty similar to this: http://www.coleman.com/product/mult...009424?contextCategory=1110#.UZu0PPXajNU

For such a little thing, it puts out a lot of light ... more than my 4D cell MagLight and vastly less weight. Battery life is good plus AAAs are interchangeable with the other crap I carry into the woods.

I'm using Ed T's system of the AA Zebralight and an AA Fenix handheld too. So far it's awesome. The Zebralight is a great flood headlamp and the Fenix is an incredibly bright spot for the size and weight.
