Agreed with keeping things quiet. Where I grew up many a monster was shot and not a one was ever measured for B&C or P&Y. Skull cap and antlers were cut off and hung in the garage and that was that.

The word spreads quickly on the big Toads. Phones ring, cell phone pics are sent, taxidermists talk, egos surface. Sooner or later another walks into the garage. If more than one knows, the word gets out.

Although I moved to Minnesota over 20 years ago, I'm lucky enough to have access (through friends) to some darned good hunting spots from near Youngstown all the way down to southern Ohio. I don't get home as much as I used to, but permission to hunt is only a phone call away. No big racks from down there yet, but some huge deer. Took an ugly old 6 point near Columbiana that weighed 265 lbs. Tough old bastid-had to make ground meat out of the whole thing. He had a broadhead buried in his front shoulder that had scarred over.

Some don't need big horns to be a trophy. That boy made the cut.

We were just talking about hunting Ohio recently.
Last spring my niece got married up in Newark.

I drove back to Ky. down SR 93. I stopped and checked out some of my old hunting spots. I was happy to find some of my favorite public spots were still nearly free of human sign. Back off the roads, that is.

I actually really enjoyed bow hunting Ohio for many years.
