What advantages does one have over the other? (Mostly for hunting scenarios).

The 6.5's, whether 6.5x47 ,6.5 Creedmore, 260 Rem or 6.5x55 in a hunting scenerio are so close to equal in performance on game , trajectory and accuracy. I would go with the 260 Rem, short action and the Swede is not, popular factory rounds available, 260 brass is abundent. The 260 has a .473" bolt face the Swede is ~0.010 larger, therefore it can be built on common actions with out opening up the bolt face.

I have both, one set up as a LR rig(6.5CM) and my Ruger Swede is a stalking/stand rifle.
Between the two, they have replaced my .243,25-06 and .270....

Im mainly looking for a less recoil/ Long Range (out to 500 yards) Whitetail rifle & shoot for groups off the bench. Im also tired of my "barrel burners". I really like the ruger stock but they only offer it in the Creedmoor. I was kinda leaning towards the swede but am having a hard time finding one in a ruger. I should also add Im looking for a synthetic stock. At those hunting distances I dont think the performance from either or will matter much. I should also add Im planning to use 140gr bullets , reloading my own ammo. Lastly , I would love to mount my Schmidt Bender 5-25x56 on this rifle or do you think thats overkill?

I have a 6.5x55 on a Mauser 98 with 23" Shilen and a M-70/26" Krieger 6.5-284.

I don't hunt with a .243, a .270, or a 25-06, although I'd had all three at one time or another.

Agree that 6.5's tend to do that... cool

That's a big scope, mounts high, may need something for good cheek weld. I haven't used any X power past 22X at 1000yds due to mirage plus I can see the target anyway. So for deer at 500yds it may be more than required, but if that is what you have it will work fine. I use 142gr SMK's in my 260 Rem, @ 2800fps, target rifle although it shoots 123gr bullets just as well. I have on order a Vortex 2.5x10 PST with moa reticle, this will go on a 30-06 Sako. I will be able to hold 'on the reticle' to 1000yds with the load I have. May be worth a look for your application.

"replaced" as in sold, or just left in the safe? confused

Nice article here that may answer part of your question.
