That makes it even better. I have the same revolver and use the same load as in the video. Never felt the need for anything more out of a handgun.

I feel the same way, The 44mag is the all around best handgun cartrige in my opinion as it can be loaded for just about any situation and shooter. I did recently pick up a 454 Casull and the thing is a ball to shoot! got about 300 rounds through it and see no putting it down, The 454 loaded with 300 grain XTP mags leaving the barrel 1600fps is absolutely devastating. the gun is quickly becoming my favorite and I'm afraid my 44 is feeling left out.

I never was satisfied with the accuracy of the 240 gr Hornady load out of my Super Blackhawk. Whent to the range one day and all they had on the shelf was the 300's. My Blackhawk definently likes the heavier bullet!
That video makes me want to get out and shoot...if I could only find bullets!

Yep, .44. Watch the vid, look at the cylinder on the revolver. The .44 mag Super Red has a fluted cylinder, the .454 and .480 have unfluted cylinders. (Of course, all bets are off if someone has a custom gun.)

I have conversed with the outfitter and he verified that it was indeed a 44 mag with Hornady 300 grain XTP bullets. He stated that he was skeptical at first but the bullets penetrated plenty with minimal expansion just as they were designed to do

I remember when Lynn produced those handgun hunting videos .... he killed more stuff on one hunt that most of us will in a lifetime or two. That's gotta be a hoot in such a target rich environment and I'd love to be a cull hunter in some such place.

Not really. It is just a 300gr version of the other XTPs. They expand quite nicely for me when driven fast enough. They aren't a going to expand much when launched from a 4" barrel though. They penetrate well because.....they're 300grains

I have chronographed them out of a 10 1/2-inch SBH and they underwhelmed from a velocity standpoint, however, they were dead accurate. I suspect they don't want them to expand much. They're only rated at 1,150 fps.

Unfortunately from what I have seen they do not fare well from a 444 Marlin at 2100 fps...

On a total sample size of one, they seem to kill deer out of a .44 mag lever action. At least with head shots.

They're only rated at 1,150 fps. That seems low. I wonder what Hornady's intended application is for them? People launching them from rifles are going to exceed that 1150fps by a good margin. And people with short-barreled handguns are going to struggle to get them up to 1150fps. I wonder if they are popular with the muzzleloader crowd in sabots?

The animals that were shot with them in the above video hit the ground at the shot. Yep I'd say that is excellent performance

If Hornady designed that bullet for minimum expansion why did they put a hollow point on it? Sierra makes a similar 300 grn, but it's a solid point.
