I have a Ruger No.1 22" bbl, no sights that I want to have a stockmaker fit a new piece of wood.
I am asking for any names, and or businesses that you can recommend.
Thanks.
Mitch

I gave them a call, seems they will only work on a stock if they are rebarreling rifle. They also said the inletting for the number one is outside their realm. Bullberry suggested I try Richards Microfit in CA. (They don't do 2-piece stocks. I found out) Thanks for the suggestion. Mitch

Mitch, I can recommend Sonny McMillan, who did the work on this .25-06 for me. He does all of Joe Clayton's custom stocking of Ruger No.1's. http://www.classicsportingarms.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/25-06-002.jpgPM me if you would like contact info.

Luxus did my .300 H&H in a superb piece of English I chose off their website.
That was before they offered their own single shot....but can't hurt to shoot them an e-mail.

Thanks,
I'm getting a lot of information. I'll give some more folks calls next week.

I have had Rob Silverhill (dsilverhillhol triad.rr.com) make stocks for a number of of my rifles. Rob is located in LINWOOD, N.C.. Rob will do everything from the rough (for you to fit) up to a complete custom fit and finish (you send the rifle). FYI, here are two of the rifles with Rob's stocks. Rob also gives you options on the grade of wood used and I've found his prices are competitive. http://www.lonespruce.net/images/861.jpghttp://www.lonespruce.net/images/hun18.jpg

Thanks to all for the suggestions and leads.
I thought $1000 would get me somewhere, & after being told by more than one guy, I should probably be thinking more like $2000, I'm going on to plan "B".
Thanks for everyones time.
Mitch

An option I used was to buy from a source that roughed out the blank and fitted it to the gun, but left it up to me to finish. It took an enormous amount of hand sanding and finishing, but I got a great stock on my No. 1 for about half the cost of what it would otherwise have been.

I don't regularly go there, but I have in the past seen some fine #1 wood on Ebay. Both finished and unfinished.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum. I do tend to fit in well wherever I go in person. The campfire is the most outside exposure I get. No TV, no newspaper.
