The only rules. You've been offered 2 free scopes with the condition you can't trade/sell it and you can only select one from each choice.

1st Choice (1) Swarovski Z6 1.7-10x42mm (non-illuminated) or (2) Leupold VX-6 2-12x42mm (non-illuminated).

Which do you choose and why?

2nd Choice.

Swarovski Z6 1-6x24mm (non-illuminated) or the Leupold VX-6 1-6x24mm (non-illuminated).

Which do you choose and why?

Free...?

Do the Z6's.

Why? More expensive scopes. And FREE, you gotta go for the gusto... laugh

I have those two VX-6's, my 1-6 is illuminated #4. I like them a bunch. I have a Z3 and a Z5, no Z6's. You'd be well served with the Leupolds, but FREE..??

Easy choice.

Not really a question which will tell you what you want to know.

If you are the kind of guy that won't be satisfied unless you are quite certain you have the best, get the Z6

If you want to save a bunch of $$$ and still have a fine scope that most couldn't tell the difference from the big $$$, get the Leupold.

I don't know if Swarovski has gone back to the older style of plex reticle or not, but last year when I was looking to buy a scope I compared a Z6 side by side with a VX6 and I really didn't like the Z6's reticle. It was much too thin. I picked the VX6. Mind you, it wasn't free!

Never examined a Z6, but my Z5 3.5-18x44 had a way too fine duplex. It was so bad, I spent $125 and a trip to Swaro for a retro German #4. Even with that, the center wires are pretty thin, but the heavy part shows up really well. To me, their #4 will work and at very long range, those thin center wires are great.

It's a shame to spend the price of a Z5 (Z6) and then fork over more dough to get the reticle right. That would be a vote for a VX-6.

But for FREE.

Hey, what's an extra $125 and some postage one way...??

For long range shooting, like over 500 yds., I like my Z5 with the #4 more than my VX-6 2-12x42 with std. duplex. For general use, however, the VX-6 is hard to beat.

Swaro Z6 1.7-10x42mm, no contest. I have that very glass on a .338 WM, IMO, Leupy is not in the same class as Swaro.

With the VX-6 illuminated, the battery pod is on the turret complex and not on the ocular, like the Z6. For that reason, and because I think it's ugly, I wouldn't want an illuminated Z6. I do have an illuminated VX-6 and love that system.

Otherwise, if given the OP's choice, it would be Z6 all the way. And, I'm a VX-6 fan.

This is kind of a weird question, to me anyway. If free, no resale, etc as the OP said then the Z6 is a no brainer. Under normal circumstances the VX6, no brainer.

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

I think the OP had a deal where he could get either the VX-6's or Z6's at about the same price. So, he proposed his question, not wanting us to consider resale, just our opinions on which pair of scopes to go with.

I think he got good info.

DB Bill,

I wouldn't take one without a side by side in low light on an eye chart or line chart.

Most of Swaro's reticles suck in low light so I'd probably go with the VX6.

Z6, especially if it has the tds reticle. I have several Z-6's. Z6 is 20-30% better to my eyes.

I have both, and since I paid for both, I'll take the Leupold hands down, and keep the money....
