I have 3 of them, the oldest being about 40 and the only one i bought new. The most recent was from a friend which was on a rifle i didnt want. So i sold the rifle and sent the scope to Leupold for a reticle change. About 2 weeks later they sent me a postcard with instructions to call them. They had found some issues with the scope, and due to its age they didnt have the parts to repair it. So the question was did i want a gloss finish as the old one was or a matt finish for the free replacement they sent me.

Dood...its obvious the midget has taken residence in your brain if you're scouring to dig up 18 year old posts while attempting to make a point.
I'm no apologist, but even my tastes have changed in that time frame.
You can't argue with the insane...move on. Rock on DOOD..

I’ve owned 15 or 20 over the years. Most were 3.5x10. When purchased, they were the gold standard for a set and forget scope. They were bright, light and durable. Perfect? I never had one that tracked as advertised and some were exceedingly frustrating to get a precise zero quickly? Durable? Pretty much. I had two fail. The most recent failure withstood 25years of 340wby recoil without ever shifting point of impact. What caused the failure? Trying to adjust poi for the first time in 25 years caused a catastrophic failure of the mechanics. Was I pissed that it failed? The more I thought about it, the more comfortable I was with the performance considering I bought the scope used and with some cosmetic scars that suggested it had seen some real use. Its ard to imagine many fine instrumentals functioning like new when they haven’t been asked to move over such a period. Would I buy a used Vari-x-III? At the right price, and solely for a set and forget set up? Sure. Leupold CS is legendary. Am I in the market for new VX3 scopes? Nope. Life is too short to spend another moment of frustration trying to finely dial in a gun. One you’ve worked with a scope that tracks as advertised, there is no going back....
