Hey Petro, no it's a Texas State ring. She wanted it to be a TAMU but she wasn't in the 10%tile out of Sr. High, she wrote essays, begged but couldn't get in unless she joined the Corps of Cadets. So she went to OU for a semester, hated it, sat out rest of year and went to Texas State, she did good, going to try and teach some conservative views to our young folks up around Plano/Frisco. We went to a couple AGGIE games at Kyle Field. We love A&M, such a great tradition and now with Manziel and the SEC WOW!!!. Don't hate me but I still love UT, always have. Now I can cheer for both.

Gotcha. We need good teachers, wherever they come from. I won't hate you for loving t.u., but I do worry for your sanity I did two years at OU and finished at A&M. I loved OU but missed Texas. The petroleum department was begging for PETE majors when I transferred. We've spent the last 6 years in Houston, and just moved back home to McKinney. Frisco/Plano/Allen/McKinney is a fun area.

Post pics of your Brownings. My first deer rifle was a Browning A-bolt in .270 win. I worked all summer in 1997 throwning wheat straw bail, raking pine straw, and cutting grass to save up $325. (cheap child labor I was 12) The week before school started my father took me to Barrow Automotive in Butler, GA to look around and of course everything was out of my price range. I just knew I'd be hunting with his marlin 30-30 iron sights only again. (Now I take it once a year just to remember him) As I was standing there drueling a guy walked in with a rifle with rings on it with no scope wanting to trade it for something else. I thought the gun was beautiful! I heard him say it was a .270 which was what my best friend hunted with and that was what I was looking for. When the guy came back with his gun they told him they would give him $300 bucks trade in since it had the rings on it. My father immediatly looked at him and said "My boy here will up that bid to $325." The man looked down at me and said you sure you want this old thing and you sure can handle a .270. Of course I said yes sir and pulled out the cash and we swapped right there in the store. My father gave it a good lookover and shook hands with him. He then leaned down to me and said it sure is going to be hard to shoot that thing without a scope. I was so excited it didn't have iron sights because my father was old school and said iron sights was all you needed. He told the guy behind the counter to go grab a scope that wouldn't break the bank and he come back with a Simmons AETEC 3.8x12x44. My father bought that for me I was ready to go! I checked the serial number a couple years ago and the chart said it was made in 1987. I have since bought other deer rifles but I only hunt with them a few times and then I pick up that .270 and hunt with it the rest of the year. I guess it will always be my favorite since I had to work so hard for it. It is prob the most accurate gun I own. Here is a pic of it. Please share any stories on here you would like I don't have any Brownings. But I have to admit, I like your rifle and your story. Thanks for sharing.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Earl; Welcome to the 'Fire from a wee bit north of the medicine line and thank you kindly for the enjoyable thread. Like many here I grew up reading the glossy Browning brochures and had a cousin with a Belgian made .264 - so I really wanted one. Along about 1981 I traded the Model 100 that my father had given me for a brand new BBR '06. I wanted a 7 Mag because my older brother had a CIL-Savage in that chambering, but the store in Osoyoos,BC didn't have any so I walked out with that heavy '06. Well I hunted a fair bit with it in Saskatchewan and all over BC when we moved back here in '84 and it never failed to work 100% for me ever. It killed a bunch of mulie and whitetail bucks for me as well as a California Bighorn. I'm sorry that the only photo I seem to be able to locate of it is this scan from about '93 or '94 if memory serves. For the sharp eyed 'Fire folks, yes the fore end is modified - I rounded it off and did a wrap around checkering job on it one winter and the barrel is shortened to 21" because I felt like it one day. Over the years as I tried different rifles it became the one in the safe I'd lend to new hunters because it was reliable as a hammer and also because the BBR's were so heavy it was easy to shoot well even with stout 180gr or 200gr loads. One of the young fellows I lent it to sort of had to have it after hunting with it for a season, so I let him have it for a price we were both happy with. That's my Browning story and photo for you Earl. Thanks again for the thread, again welcome here and all the best to you in the upcoming week. Regards, Dwayne

Shag; Thank you sir, it was my best to date. It might interest you to know that this one came from the same height of land ridge that runs north south down to where you and I were talking about recently. That was '87 or '88 and died in front of the BBR too. It may or may not be of interest to you that this one died within a half mile of the first photo. Note the similarities in the antlers over the years. Of course once they go to where I was writing about, they're no longer fair game for me - but might be for some other enterprising folks. There is no way I killed the last decent whitetail on that ridge of land Shag, so just to get your juices flowing and all. Have a good week Shag and all the best to you and yours. Dwayne edit PS; With apologies to the OP as I know there's no Browning in either photo.

Thanks. I don't know much about my rifle as I have only seen 1 other A-bolt with a factory stock like mine. From what that guy told me it was called a CAMO STALKER and Browning only made them a few years.

Glad to see another BBR on this thread!! I just acquired a BBR in .30-06 a couple of years ago from my Dad. I traded him a Marlin 336 in .30-30 for it (I obviously got the better end of that deal!). Its a heavy gun but it is VERY well made and shoots great! Took this buck with it last fall. I also have a Browning 20ga BSS. My grandfather bought one of these for each of his two grandson's in the late 70's so that "they will always have a nice shotgun". It is my go to gun for any upland hunting! I LOVE that little gun! Someday it will by my son's. Chris

Another BBR in 338Win Mag like Dwayne says heavy as a railway tie but a great shooter more than a "few" elk-moose-deer and toss in the odd Grizzly bear have felt the string of a 250gr Nosler

Congrads a few great "Local" BC Whitetail deer

Stainless Stalker in .270win. Has accounted for many-many gut piles. Its one of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned and I've had a few.. How did you manage to get so close to the prison wall while hunting

sjr; That is a really nice photo of your griz! One thing about this aging deal is that the photos are much clearer here at home on the big screen than they were on the back of your camera - I think that's when you showed it to me.......well I am getting older and more forgetful. Drop by work sometime if you've nothing better to do and we'll talk about the cool weather we've been having lately. Again nice, NICE griz there sjr. All the best to you and yours this summer. Dwayne

Scadly, I'm not the owner of a new BLR.........but was still able to keep one in the family. Meet my new A-Bolt Medalions. One .25-06 one .308 Win both with 26" bbls. After I found out they discontinued the standard BLR PG 81, I gave up trying to find one and was all about to fork over $1300 for a Kimber w/scope. Until a friendly fellow forum member directed my search to his local gun store in Walker, MN called Reeds Family Sporting Goods. They didn't have what I wanted, but for the price I was about to spend on a Kimber 84m Montana at a local shop, I got these two Medallions!!!!! Plans for the .308 are to turn it into a Micro-Medallion clone. The .25 will keep it's 26" length for superior ballistics, and simply get bedded in an Ultralight B&C Medalist stock and bead blasted to a nice satin finish. .308 Win .25-06
