Near ever manufacturing consideration involves economics. Probably to increase their profit margin.

Really, Browning, Winchester, and Ithaca. SKB, Micurou, and Howa. It has been going on for a long time. for the most part very very good firearms.

Same reason Winchester and Browning did, high quality with a good profit margin. Seem to recall Weatherby, as do many others, now uses Turkey for some models.

Mark V's went to Germany then Japan and have been made in the US before the turn of the century. Their shotguns are made in Turkey and the Vanguards are made in Japan. Highest Quality Mark V weatherbys were the Japanese version.

I would argue the highest quality and most sought after were those made in Germany by J. P. Sauer and Sohn . . . forged actions and hammer forged barrels.

I think your both right .... finest detail and collectable are the German variants. However, the Japanese models are routinely considered the most accurate.

The present made-in-USA Mark V's also VERY accurate in my experience. I've owned several over the past few years and all have shot great.

I have owned 2 SS Saco Defense models 270 and 300 wby and they were boringly accurate.

There has never really been a Weatherby factory since the early 50's, at least not in the sense that there's a Remington factory. Once Weatherby outgrew his shop, he farmed out his designs for someone else to build. At first it was Sako, then they moved production to Howa in Japan. Howa still builds the Weatherby Vanguard.

Why Japan? Because Howa had the manufacturing capabilities to do it at a reasonable price.

Yeah, Weatherbys. The Mark V is currently made by Saco Defense and Acrometal in the US.
