I have not been able to travel for fun in 3 years. This year the doctors said I could go out of state. My wife took me to Big Timber and we toured the Shiloh factory. When we got back to the show room she smiled and said" Well aren't going to order a rifle, that is why I brought you up here". About a year from September I will have a new Sporter #1 in 40 2.1 ( 40/65 Win). I knew I had a keeper when we married 36 years ago.

Steve--The 40-65 is a great caliber choice. You're really gonna like that one.

Who says I use a 40-65? I said it was a great caliber choice, not that I used one.

Ah HAH! He did encourage me to use one. He even left one here in Tejas to tempt me.

You guys are tougher and meaner than I am. I simply cannot shoot a flinter. I had a good left handed flinter made and tried my very best to learn to shoot it for over a year. All I succeeded in doing was to screw up my percussion shooting. After I got rid of the flinter, it took me six months to get back to where I was with my percussion Hawken. My hat's off to both of you.

I will say that my 58 caliber round ball Hawken is the best deer killing rifle I have ever owned. It puts them on the ground RIGHT NOW, and when they go down, they don't get back up. A good round ball traditional muzzleloader is hard to beat.

Actually Bill, a good flinter is the bestest marksmanship traing aid one could get. IF you have a deficiency in your shooting technique, a flinter will tell you fast and without regard to your dignity and ego. I mended my ways on follow through due to my flinter allowing me to look like a total idiot. I worked on the problem and improved. Damn near as much fun as a Sharps.

Et,

Sometimes one has to go back to the basics to break up the rhutt one gets in. This one is a .54.

I will agree with the marksmanship training aid one could gets; you learn the importance of follow through.
