Well men, loaded up some more today (Hey ET, this habit comes in waves, you can try to suppress and it might last a month, but boy the addiction comes back with a vengeance! ). I have a buttload of KIK 1F that worked with the Brooks 500 grain RN (100gr 1F), so I loaded a batch of Brooks, compressed to .600 and seated to .400, same for the Long Lance 500gr hollow based, a couple of those spitzers you sent me Woody and finally some PHs. Those I have to compress to .790 for as you guys know, it's a long bullet. Any guesses as to what I can expect given the different powder? I know the Brooks' work but I'm particularly interested in how the PHs are going to shoot. jorge

If all those shoot to a relative 200yd POI for you I'm chit canning my scales and go to a powder measure, throw charges for volume instead of weight, pour a mixed batch of alloys, burn all my load data and finally pull out my last few cranial hairs!

This is what a paper patch group is supposed to look like
the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to. www.historicshooting.com

Yeah, what he said! What kind of PP bullet does that target say?

Damn, that would hurt the feelings of most scoped deer rifles around here.
Very nice shooting.

Yeah, what he said! What kind of PP bullet does that target say? Jorge think that's our "Bernie" bullet by his weight of 507grs. *Edit..Bill says this is your Brooks PP bullet.

You guys might try KIK FFg at 100 grs or so.Last time I ordered Fg Jerry didn't have any so I had him send me FFg and 1 1/2 Fg. Haven't played with the 1 1/2 yet but FFg sure works nice. good luck with it.

MM: You mean KIK 1F or is FFG=2F or something else?

That's strictly what I'm using Bill recommended it right off for my 110.Can't compare it against other powders as I haven't used any but it really seems to shoot clean with minimal fouling and I can string a bunch of my 95-100gr loads together without wiping..

jorge, you just see it expressed both ways sorry for the confusion. 3 Fg same as FFFG, 2 Fg same as FFg etc. both Fg and FFg KIK have reponded real well to fouling management via a grease cookie made of 2 parts jojoba and 1 part beeswax by weight for me. Magnum man

That's what I thought. I've used both, 1F (KIK) and 2F (Goex and KIK) and found the KIK to be less of a fouler. Bill gave me a load for my 500gr Brooks Mold PP bullet using KIK 1F and it shoots very well.

Just finished casting 100 of the Brooks PP bricks and ran 50 of the flatnose PP "Long Lance" in the flat base config this time for a comparison accuracy test at ranges beyond 100yds.
Question for you competitive shooters, what's your acceptable cast differential + or - weight in grains for a given bullet?

If your casting process is under good control, you will be able to keep almost all the bullets in a 1 gr. range (total, not +/-).

Thanks Clarence,My target is + or minus .3 to .4 of grain spread so that keeps me under a full grain.Really difficult to keep these big bullets exactamundo unless you pour several and let the mould cool then pour a few more,as it starts to overheat the weight can increase sometimes as much as 1+1/2 grs with the 30:1 alloy I'm casting.
IMO I think powder column, compression, fouling and grease management are more critical than a 500 gr bullet cast a tad over or under.
