I'm a 700 guy, but if someone could show me a pre-64 '70 with an Edge in 280 AI that went under 7.5# with a scope, rounds, and sling, I'd probably never build another hunting rifle.....

The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I've thought about it and think I could be very happy with the new Forbes 24 in stainless steel in a .280 Remington. I had a 280 for many years that shot great, but like the typical Rifle Looney ....sold it. Thinking a nice 2x8 x 36 or a 2.5 x 10 x 40. That rifle would easily handle 99% of my big game hunting. But....a guy would also want a nice 223 or 22-250.......but I simply know I would want many more.

Sounds like a winner!
I've got all the parts, anyways...grin. It should be done by the end of September-going to school will kind of slow it down. I think it'll be a good one though.

TanMan - I must have missed it, what have you got in the works now? Changed to a 280 AI from the 7mm WSM?

Yeah.... Couldn't really swing the 7 Whizz in the long run, just too much tied up in it. I got a great deal on a Rock 7mm Rem Sporter and 700 LA from elkhuntinguide, and nabbed a Ti takeoff. A lot cheaper and will hopefully shoot really well....

I'm an unabashed M70 fan and the Dakota 76 takes it to the nth degree. I'd have a 76 w/ Oberndorf style bottom in Dakota fiberglass or McMillan Edge, barrels (2) chambered by someone like Gradous or Dixon in 264 and 338 Win or 7mm and 340 Wea with Talley Lightweights and Lupy 4.5-14 B&C or something thereabouts. ......or maybe in just an '06.

I'm a pretty simple guy so all I would want would be a factory made 7600 35 whelen carbine. Top it off with a Leupold 2x7 scope and I would be quite happy. At some point I'll prolly just pick up a cheap 760 in 30-06 and send it JES and get it rebored and the barrel cut to 18" and recrowned. End up with the same rifle, just the poor mans way of getting there.
If it looks good, you'll see it If it sounds good, you'll hear it If it's marketed right, you'll buy it But...If it's real, you'll feel it Kid Rock

I wouldn't spend $10K on a rifle. I'd spend it on a horseback moose hunt in BC or Yukon. If only that would do it. But I am with you on this, it would make a good down payment anyway

I wouldn't spend $10K on a rifle. I'd spend it on a horseback moose hunt in BC or Yukon. Pretty good advice, I took a $500 rifle, a Ruger M77 RS 35 Whelen, on a $10,000+ horseback hunt in northern BC and had the trip of a lifetime. I will head up there again in a few years. Nothing compares.
