Damn I just got my 300 wsm all lightened up and a guy called gunnut pm's me and says he'll take it..... eek....Good thing I have another one to play around with :grin.....Oh well, now I can give this one more tender loving time and finally get a good load developed for it... sick...:

I guess I could always use my pre 64 model 70 fwt 30-06 too, if I had to. It fits the "light" criteria (as far as I'm concerned). Not too shabby of a shooter either:

It's the one below my 375 H&H:

Im in Central Oregon, about 50 miles south of Bend. All my rifles are model 70's except for one and thats a Kimber 8400. The Kimber is ok but its not a model 70.

700sa Faux Ti .284win. Pacnor 9 twist at 24". Wyatt box, VXIII 3.5-10x40. Shoots 162bthp over 51gr '17 at 2900 and tight. The group below is one of those stupid ones that'll never happen again as the first two are in the top hole.

Got to stretch the 162 A-Maxes out a little more this morning....

[Linked Image]

Shot 850,950, and 1050.

Here's 3 @ 950.... Needed about .5 Minute less vert, it looks like....

[Linked Image]

And 3 @ 1050. The wind got me pretty bad, but 3" of vertical doesn't hurt my feelings.

Are you getting poi shift from the 'pod vs. over a pack? Dialing wind or holding off?

Good shooting Tanner, those A-maxs are working for you.

I could take up a whole page with "lW LR" rifles but my definition of light weight is actually pretty heavy. One of the latest.

280 AI with 162s, first and second trip to 800. Only 13 rounds down the tube so far.

Thanks Rick & Eddy....

BW, I tested this rifle for POI shift when using a pack vs. when using a bipod this winter. I found pretty much ZERO poi shift, but I can definitely hold quite a bit tighter off the bipod.

Here's some targets illustrating a static POI....it made me pretty happy for when I have to lace the boots on tight and don't want the bipod on there.

[Linked Image]

This group was shot at 600 off of a pack with a rear bag.

[Linked Image]

And this one was shot off a bipod and rear bag, at 600 as well....

[Linked Image]

Seems like if you've got a rifle bedded and floated well, with a nice stiff stock, POI shift shouldn't be much of an issue when using a pack or bipod.

Back to where I started.....grin

700 SS ADL 7 Rem Mag, Ti takeoff, Talleys, 6x42 w/ M1 and LRD reticle. Gonna' try hashing out some 168 VLDs when time permits. Not too sure about weight, my guess is 8-8 1/4 as it sits.

When the shot comes in sheep hunting heavier rifles sure steady down much nicer than a pistol wt. rifle.. My sheep rifle weighted 10.5#..
