They're (45 grainers) so impressive on coyotes I'm thinking about hunting deer with them this year in Montana.
Aren't they tough on pelts on exit?

The last coyote I shot with 45grain SP hornady never got found, lots of blood but no dog! (.204) it was a larger dog (for here) 35lbs +\- 5 @ 200 yds I know he's dead but he made it another 100yds full sprint to the tree line with blood the whole way good shot place ment he was looking right at me and I seen the shot in my scope hit him center mass; although all v max shots 32&40 grainers DRT just the experience I had-
Thank The Lord for imr4064! -I don't always run a hoe; but when I do I hit the pipe Bergara sidekick .223 wylde Bergara B14 ridge 6.5 creedmoor Ruger 57 Dead air Sandman L

Midsouth's Varmint nightmares. They won't tell you who makes them, but after several thousand rounds; my story is that they are Nosler. yeah, those 34 grain HPs, are made by Nosler.. and plus they are as accurate and lethal as ANY other 20 caliber bullet I have tried....and that has been all of the ones, by the majors from 40 grains and under.... I enjoy slowing them down to 22 Mag velocities, and shoot them out of a Ruger with an Ultra Lite 20 inch barrel at crows when I take a walk in the woods locally near the house, which I do just for exercise....and tree rats...

Hornady 40 grain VMAX ammo is so accurate in my 204's I haven't even taken the time to build a load. The ammo was available, inexpensive and shot like crazy. One of my hunting partners loads 39 grain Sierras and is very pleased with the performance and accuracy.

40 V-Max works fabulously in my Savage LRPV, as well as the Savage 25 I used to own.

DocRocket: All six of my Varmint Rifles in caliber 204 Ruger are now using the wonderful Sierra 32 grain Blitz-Kings! These bullets perform extremely well on all manner of Varmints from Ground Squirrels to Prairie Dogs, Rock Chucks, Badgers, Fox and Coyotes! In todays limited availability market I hope you can somehow attain the ability to shop around for various bullets to use in your 204. I went through a period when all my 204's used the superb Berger 35 grainers and in fact they shot groups almost a tenth of an inch better in all my 204's but I gave up trying to maintain a supply of them as they were highly sought after by Varminters. So I switched to using the 32 grain Sierras and have been quite happy with them since doing so. Personally I would simplify your bullet useage to ONE bullet for both predators and Prairie Dogs in your 204. Best of luck with the 204 Ruger Rifle - personally I think its THE best "all around" Varmint cartridge ever made! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

And, that's pretty atypical for me. DF

I shoot 32 sierra BKs at PDs and 35 Bergers at coyotes, both with very good success.

I have just started reloading for a CZ 204 and am trying the 39-gr SBKs and the 32-gr H V-maxes first. As I have a bunch of TAC and it's very close to H335 (which I also have) in burning rate, I'm starting with it out of curiosity.
Here, in NW Iowa, with "good" snow, dry and fluffy, we sneak up on coyotes or fox after spotting them. In these conditions three hundred yards is a longish shot.

Dont want to take over the thread but seems like there are a bunch of 204 guys here, so my question is for a light calling rifle what do all of you recomend? Been looking at the TC venture, any thoughts or comments.
