As a by the way I should have noted more clearly that the little 2 point mulie in the photo was buck number 5 taken with the .270 and it killed an unphotographed spike mulie for me a couple weeks ago as well.

The dark side ain't so bad....

Good post BC30, I like the rifle too. Sorry to hear about your hunting partner though. Most of the older generation in my family of hunters are gone. We do have some coming up though and look forward to many more seasons.

I agree on chasing the weight savings, it those last few ounces that can get expensive.

Handwerk, that custom 270 is really outstanding! Nothing on that one I would change at all. (I saved a picture of it for future reference)

You are welcome Dwayne,the only hunt I have is Black Bear in Arizona,leaving next Sunday for it. Not taking a .270 for this one.

That is an awesome looking rifle, but that safety isn't pre-war. Are you sure it is not a transition?

I have a much uglier pre-war .270, but no photo of it currently.

This is a hawkeye .270 I rented in South America last spring. It was a solid rifle for sure.

I'm not going to post a picture. My pre-war 70 is well worn (not abused by neglect), is padded, and the rear bridge has been drilled. It was owned as new by an old family friend whom I just barely knew. At the time he stopped hunting, Cousin bought his pre-war .270, .30-06, and a pre 64 .264 Westerner. Upon Cousin's demise, the .270 came to me. I had used it for a couple of years in the early sixties.

It very much needs to be transformed into something like EdM's display. I suppose I need to think on that!

Mossberg ATR-100 with a Weaver Grand Slam fixed 4.75x on it.



Not only is it the "gay" caliber, but I got it a Wal-Mart for 220 bucks. Ugly. Decent shooter, but no tack-driver.

All it does is kill deer with one shot.

With only one hand available!

A friend of mine won one of those on a gun raffle a few years ago. His wife carries it deer hunting and danged if she doesn't take a deer with it pretty much every year. I guess those Mossbergs must shoot at least minute of deer...should have bought the one with the nice walnut stock I saw at Dicks for $300...

Now, that was vicious....

Dog Hunter, one of my smiths said that he could easily change my bass awkward pre-war safety out for a new style. If I customize mine, that change will happen. IIRC, he checked Brownell's catalog.

ahhh...true. If that rifle has been purtied up, the safety could easily have been changed too. Thanks for suggesting that.

I'm strickly cold chamber, so changing a safety would never occur to me. (I hope this thread doesn't derail due to that comment)
