Project Finally done.

It was a .222 Remington. Now it has a premium Pacnor 3 groove 1 in 10 twist barrel, and a bolt face opened to .270. It is glass bedded and free- floated with the trigger set to break a bit over 3 lbs. With an old VX II 2x7 it weighs in at a hair over 7.5 lbs. Range work next week.

FyrepowrX,

I have a granddaughter and soon to be DIL who are interested in deer hunting and I think this will be an excellent starting carbine for them both. I'll have to break it in first though.

Factory stock still on it.

I have some Corbon TSX 110 gr ammo, lots of Hornady 120 gr SPC, and some Silver State Nosler Accubonds in 100gr to try out first.

Sounds pretty neato.

I have a 799 7.62X39 that's been collecting dust for years. I've given some serious thought to a 6.5 Grendal barrel but have never done it. Maybe soon.

Sure wish I would have picked up one of those when Remington was selling them... nice little rigs... if they were available in a 22 Hornet, I'd be rebarreling it to 17 Hornet nowadays..

I like the round, but have not seen a real desireable rifle chambered in the round yet..looked at a Ruger, but it was definitely a real POS re quality control... worst Ruger I have ever held...

Seafire,

There is a new distributor in Las Vegas for the Zastava rifles including the mini Mauser. They have wood stocks. Boyds also carries stocks for the little carbine.

I have a 799 in a hornet, blueing as good as any , trigger workable, stock is ok but don't like "die and wax" finish. accuracy- best hornet I have ever seen smile the worat part to me is the little undersized bolt handle and I can not find an exrta clip to purchase

I don't like the bolt handle either. I had both of mine upgraded. The action feels smoother with the added leverage of the longer handle.

Id like to get one of those mini mausers and have it rebarreled to 6x45. I think that would be a really handy little predator/light deer rifle.

any pics of the finished rifle?

Bought one in 7.62x39. Shoot the prvi partizan 123gr round nose soft points and am well pleased with it's performance.

Would like to have Karnis slim down the factory stock to Mtn Rifle dimensions when he's back up to snuff.

Any picture of a Remington 799 would match mine. Externally, I made no changes except a reblue of the same contoured new barrel.. If the glass bedded factory stock shoots OK, I probably will not.

But that slim down might just work. The meaty original though is
rigid enough to support good accuracy.

Here's mine. It's still not finished after about 6 years. Sometimes you have to work up to these things slowly. wink

Here is the action after James Anderson got ahold of it.
New bolt handle, 3 position safety, custom bases and suface ground the "billboard" off the left side of the action.

It sits in a highly modified Great American Gunstock pattern with skeleton buttplate, gripcap and bow release bottom metal.

It still needs checkering and a rust blue job on it. I've also given some thought to a re-barrel but I don't know if that's gonna happen or not.

They are fun and neat little rifles. I've got another that is finished that Shane Thompson and James Anderson worked on. It's a once in a lifetime rifle.
Top of the line Mini Mauser.

I've got three mini actions waiting in the wings. One of each bolt face size. Current thoughts are 30BR, 7.62x39 or 30 cal on the Grendel case, and probably a .223. Two kids need deer rifles and something to plink varmints with. Getting the lathe back together so it might happen this spring for at least one of them.
Terry, always enjoy seeing pics of yours.

COOL!! I've wanted to 6.8 in a bolt action for some time now. PTG makes a bolt for Remingtons with the right bolt face. To many other projects to start that one. Light us how it shoots, I'm really curious.
