How many of us started reloading with the mindset we would load 45, 9mm, 223 etc to save money and be able to shoot more?

Lol. I have 15 sets of dies on the bench and shelves of components and loaded ammo.

And hardly have time to shoot!!! I believe I have got to reflect on this a bit and come up with a better plan

Have a great week all!!!

Being single and very much appreciating the blessing of singleness I derive much joy living a life of shooting, hunting, fishing, camping and exploring the great outdoors without constraint.

Playing around at the reload bench in the evening after work for a bit before I hit the hay is at the top of my list of things I like to do when at home. I've no intention of changing.

On the other hand, I know a famous hunting writer who's done about everything possible, all over the world, and mostly uses factory ammo.

On yet another hand, I've never known him to relax much!

i started by trying to get my cousin's 22-250 to shoot, and now have gone through .204, .223, .243, .25-06, .270, 6.5x55, .257 Roberts, .250 Savage, .270 WSM, etc.

so yeah, it can get out of hand fast and lead to new rifles and new projects and a lot of time and money.

but it beats a lot of other hobbies.

...45 colt, 38, 357, 44mag...lol

Being 70yrs old, I probably have more reloaded ammo that I could shoot in the rest of my life.

maybe he was talking 15 sets of dies in just one caliber...

then that would make him fit right in....

how many will admit to accumulating things they don't need, but if the price is cheap and they think it might have some trade value some day, buy it anyway....

About 36 years ago when I was stationed in Hawaii I was thinking seriously about buying a Ruger convertible in 45 ACP/45 Colt. One of the Chiefs that worked with us was about to be transferred and his wife told him he HAD to get rid of about 700 rounds of GI 45 ACP. Well, when he mentioned it to me I "pulled the trigger" so to speak and ordered the Blackhawk for $87, shipping included. smile

Was taught the art of "handloading" around 11-12 years of age. The main notion was to save money.

This generational DIY activity I was taught and hopelessly addicted from such a young age has given the reloading industry thousands of my own dollars be it on powder, primers, bullets, dies, brass, books, manuals you name it..... So much for trying to be cheap wink I could not even began to figure a amount of rounds I've loaded.... But good GAWD has it been fun and very rewarding

But sense when is an addiction cheap.... The memories had like killing my first elk with handloads I built myself for my .280 rem. Or loading ammo for different family and friends to have them say Man, there is a difference.... be it how bullets worked on game or how there groups shrank a little.

Cannot put a price on stuff like that.

happiness is elbow deep in elk guts.

My 'problem' are the components for rifles I don't have anymore. They sit on the shelf calling out for help, for salvation. They need to be used....

Sold off my 270 stuff just recently after about 15 years of not having a 270.

Picked up a new to me 300WM last week for just this reason. Still waiting are 7RM, 8 Mauser and 270WSM. Assuming nothing new comes in first....

That is because gunwriters get all their guns and ammo free and get paid insane amounts of money...
