I've had two pair of their Diamondback 8x42 binos and loved them for the $200 or so that I paid. But there ain't no way no how I'd give over $1200 for the Razor.
I read some great reviews on the 1-6 Razor, and then realized who was writing the review (a sponsored shooter for.....Vortex). He's a really nice guy, but he also claimed the 1-6 was so clear it was like looking through a 1-8....gimme a break.
I'm not trying to scare you off from a Vortex, but I'd definitely check it out before buying. There's a lot of good, inexpensive glass out there.
your flippant remarks which you so adeptly sling

Got to look through the Burris Tac30 and MATC and Millet 1-4Xs today. The Burris seemed like solid scopes for the money, my only qualm is with the 2.5 MOA center dot. It'd be great at 50 yards but at 200-300 it would cover a lot of target. The millet was not bad either. The glass wasn't as nice and the illumination wasn't nearly as bright but I liked the reticle. Unfortunately the vortex isn't available to look at locally. I may just order one from Doug to check it out and send it back if it's not my cup of tea.

I would not go below 2x on the low end. 1x is never needed infact all the 1x scopes I have looked through the image actually appears smaller than without looking through the scope. you can shoot targets very very close in with a 2x scope on the low end. I am looking at the same decision. I bought a 2-7 burris ff2 the scope works great for me but the optics aren't as nice as I want. I am thinking about changing it out. Its almost like the particular unit I bought may have glass that isn't as clear. because the ff2 normally has decent glass.
anyways I am looking at a 2-8 monarch or vortex viper hs in 2.5-10x44 as replacements.

Mine wears a Leupold 2x7. Just perfect for that caliber & let's in a lot more light that the 1x4 or 1.5x5. Great little 200 yard whitetail & hog gun / caliber IMO

While I have a 2x7, my 1-6 beats it in every category. And yes the 1x is very effective, especially with the red dot on. There's good reason they (low powered variables) are gaining in popularity with 3 gunners, soldiers, trainers and hunters.
I finally put a cat tail on mine and can't believe the difference it made.
