The worst "age shock" of my life came one morning when I woke up and realized I was in 5th grade. It's been all downhill from there. I tried looking in the mirror for gray in my beard but I didn't have much o' one and didn't find any.

Every day I find something new to remind me! (And the previous things continue to hang around as well.) My first real awareness of my unyouthfulness came after a week in Canada when the hot water supply was fitful enough to make me give up shaving for the week. (Which nearly drove me to a higher degree of nuts.) When we reached our vehicle after flying out, I took my first look in a mirror and was greeted by a picture of Walter Brennan staring back at me.
Not a real member - just an ordinary guy who appreciates being able to hang around and say something once in awhile.

If ya really wanna know how much you hurt, have an ER give you a good dose of Demerol. I found out that broken toe 32 years back still hurts, as the pain crept back in. It got much worse as the hours went by. I am really glad they keep that stuff locked up.... I think.
No fear, no doubt, all in, balls out.

Back hurts, knees stand crackle and pop, can't read without reading glasses, don't have the stamina I used to have, but I am still in the game so I am okay. It beats the alternative anyway.
Still "pole vault out of bed" (if ya know what I mean) fairly regularly, so no complaints.

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

Getting a little older could be lots worse, I hear. I've been butcherd three times for cancer and nine years ago the dr. had to split my back open to cut and grind on me for over eight hours but I can still pack up and head up in the Beartooth's on a fishing trip so I don't have a lot to belly-ache about.
And tonight I attended my 79th birthday party. Life's good.

Us old guys have it good in one way. A 30 year old can only enjoy a good looking woman of 35 or under. Now that I'm 65, I can see the beauty in women clear up to 70, if any. It greatly increases the viewing opportunities. Thanks for the heads up. Glad I have time to prepare for that. Better start stocking up the ole playbook now though.

Thanks, Ricky. Mighty good compliment!
Are you evading the storm?

Tbear: I am enjoying my "old age" (66) and retirement - to the max! I plan on growing even older and doing so gracefully for as long as possible. Remember grwoing older is FAR better that the alternative (not growing any older - dying!)! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
