Trying to hold out till after Christmas when I'm going to move on a 375Ruger....
I did just make a deal on a spare boat paddle stock in long action length to put back for a project.

i have 2 wood/blue mk-2's and 2 fn model 70's (1 an ew and the other a super grade). all 4 are solid hunting rifles. obviously the wood on the sg is superior to that on the rugers, but all else is about equal to me. all are accurate, all went to my smith to have the trigger lessened, both rugers were glass bedded. the most accurate is the ew. i wouldn't hesitate to but either a ruger (hawkeye included) or an fn model 70. each will give you a lifetime of quality service imo. ymmv.

Matt - I'd love to try a Zytel boat paddle. Have you converted yours with studs for sling swivel, or just use the factory mounts?

I was wishing I had it back this elk season  ....I put my model 71 thru some good times out here in the PNWet (funny 4thpoint), so good in fact that I had to let the wood dry out for a couple days before I put it back on the rifle. My 338 just rocks on thru the crappy weather though, so I ended up using it for the most part. Not that I won't use my winchesters because I used my model 70 30-06 too when it was really pouring. It's cerakoted and has the bansner stock on it, which I found out was too damn slick out in the rain. That's when I was wishing I had the extreme weather back with that grippy as hell Mcmillan hunters compact edge. You've got a winning combination right there!!!

2x4, but the boat paddle is stronger. 2x4 is more comfortable though ...Just kidding. The boat paddle is MUCH lighter...Just replace the goodyear tire they call a recoil pad and you'll be alright...

That doesn't make my decision any easier! The plywood on the MKii I got feels great, but have a co-worker with boat paddle that I might be able to get.

I will say the new greenish laminate hawkeye I handled wasn't that heavy and shouldered very nicely, I was pretty surprised. Oh and ya you gotta swap out the pad on the boat paddles for sure!

What pad are you guys using for the boat paddles? IIRC Limbsaver makes a replacement pad. Anything above a 270 I replace but YMMV.

I agree with you Matt. The hard rubber tire tread fn sucks on those boat paddle stocks...
