That one is cute...don't know if it would be legal where I live, I believe we need an 18" min barrel length. You cannot go wrong with the price you paid though.
Yeah, it is really handy (pun intended) to carry. Mild recoil with stout 44mag loads too. I am going to take the scope off and see how I like the irons that came with it, as that would make it even handier.

While my experience with No. 1's is far more limited than some, I really think the whole notion of them "not shooting" is way overblown.
I've had 2 stainless/laminate #1's. One in 7mm STW was very accurate, honest 1/2" with hand loads. I foolishly swapped it for it's twin in 7mm Rem mag with my cousin when I temporarily got out of hand loading for a time. He immediately bedded the forearm, etc because that's what you have to do to get them to "shoot."
The 7mm r.m. shot about an inch or so with cheap factory ammo, which despite what you read on the interweb, is plenty good enough for hunting, and I took deer out to 400 yds.
Out of boredom I traded off the 7mag for a Rem 700 in 257 wby. It shot fine (about like the #1's), but after hunting with it for one season, I went back to a #1. To me, when you get used to them, nothing else feels right.
I now have another ss/lam in 300 win mag, but I haven't shot it yet, so maybe it will shoot patterns instead of groups (but I doubt it).
IMO, If you want something to shoot .0000001 groups on paper from a benchrest, get something else, but if you want an accurate rifle that is a pleasure to hunt with, get a #1.

Out of the box, I've had great luck with my CVA Scout 44 mag. for firearm deer, here in Indiana.

Straight out of the box, my H&R ultra varmiter, in .223, after sight in, will shoot a 5/8" 3 shoot group at 100 yds, all day. So far this year my wife has shot 2 bucks, 80 and 120 yds., both head shots.---However, wish I could say the same about my Handi, .45-70 tho. Shoots well, but deffinantly needs a trigger job! Twink

What you are describing in your specs is a Merkel or Blaser single shot. Find a used one and buy it. You won't be sorry. RJ

Any of the black pad Rugers should be a reliable shooter. May not be 1/2", but I expect it will do fine.
Every Miroku (aka Browning, Winchester 1885 & B78) High & Low Wall I've tried has been a fine shooter. Funky features sometimes, but usually excellent barrels.

I love my Luxus K95, for sure, but wish Blaser made a Prohunter stock for it.

If price is a concern, I've had really good luck with H&R Handi Rifles untweaked, right out of the box. Out of 4(2:45-70, 25-06, & 35 Whelen), two shot less than an inch with factory ammo, and two shot 1-1.25in. All had good triggers as well.
I thought I'd make an upgrade this past year, so bought an Encore frame and custom MGM bbl. The thing has been a headache from day 1. After alot of money and many mods, it's finally coming together, but I'd have been far better off buying a few more Handis for the same coin. It certainly looks better than the Handis, but I could care less about looks for certain tools. I'll get out one of my custom bolt guns when I want something fancy to look at....

Ruger #1H in 405 Winchester. Out of box except I mounted a VX-II in 2-7x33 on it. Never touched the trigger, nor the bedding, just cleaned it and shot it. Nothing spectacular to look at, but she shoots nicely. Above is a three shot group with Hornady 300 gr FP at 2450 fps from a makeshift rest at 100 yards -- good enough for the girls I go with. Here's the beast.
