I'm patient, generally speaking. I'll wait till shortactionsmoker gets bored with his new SA Forbes, then I'll purchase it at a substantial discount and have a new tube screwed on in 250 Savage.
1-9" twist of course. I just saw this and laughed.... However, you did not deny that it would happen!

Just looked at the catalog and if someone knows Mel well enough tell him to ditch the 1-10" twist on the 243. That is a silly ass twist to use.

Your first used Forbes will be a 7-08. Alloy action, stainless barrel. It should be here in a couple of months...

byd,
Rifle barrel length is customarily measured from the face of the bolt to the muzzle.

All right! Now we know.
A 24" Forbes 6.5x55 does sound about ideal. I have a 24B in 30-06, but my dream rifle would be the same model in 257 Roberts.... its all this old fogey would ever need.

SA's come w/21" barrels. I talked with Rick a couple of weeks ago and he said they were trying to keep the rifle as light as possible, yet not go so short that velocity would suffer. This is odd...even at 22" it would have been light.

Those that want less can cut them, but it's difficult to grow more barrel.

What's an inch, so long as she balances, though I too would prefer the option to cut myself.
I'm more troubled by the 1-10" twist for the 243

The 21" barrel doesn't bother me. I think the #2 contour at 21" will balance a 4 3/4 (bare) pound rifle nicely.
The rifle that will be in before long is a 7-08. I expect the velocity loss to be minimal.
They made a run of 10 308's. They're next round of 20B's will be 50 rifles, predominantly 7-08's....at least that's what I was told.

Yea ain't missed a shot that I thought 'Gee, I'd have made that with 2" more barrel'
Besides, my 308's wear 21" tubes, as do my 250AI's and the 7mm08 I had.
