I've had a pre-war 70 since I was in flight training back in 1980 and been loading for it for years. This rifle has an uncanny talent of throwing every kind of bullet to POI (180-220gr). I'd settled on the 180gr TTSXs3000 with half inch accuracy, but I've always been a fan of Noslers. Today I experimented again with the 200gr Noslers as well as some 220gr Hornady RNs. I continue to be impressed...

200gr Nosler Partitions,70gr RL-22 WW brass F-210 primers (BTW, non magnum primers work best for me in all calibers with charges less than 80gr) velocity was 2850:

And a bunch of 200NPs and 220gr Hornady RNs using 72 and 70 gr of H-4831 respectively. Velocity was 2850 and 2680...

So it begs the question, 2850 ok or should I try for faster? smile

With that bullet ( 200 grainer..) at that velocity, you would have the perfect plains game rifle..

Thank you for chiming in Chui..I'd love to do a comparison with it and the 180TTSX on say out to 350 yards (the farthest I've ever taken game at).

I've been shooting 200-grain Partitions in various .30 calibers since the mid-1970's, when they still were "semi-spitzers" and had relief groove around the middle. In my experience it's hard to beat them as all-around .30 caliber big game bullets at any velocity from 2550 to 3000 fps. 2850 would sure work.

The last 300 H&H I had was a Colt Coltsman... wished I still had it.

And OF COURSE every friggin' vendor is OUT of 200gr Partitions. I'm getting tired of this shortage bullshit!

There's about four boxes on Gunbroker, all seem fairly reasonably priced for now.

A few years ago I was at a gun auction from a collector and saw a M70 300 H & H IIRC made in 1946. Most the guns there were in new or only fired a few times condition. I had bid on this one but it went too high and I quit bidding. I regret not bidding higher..I'd love to have it now.

I'd be all over those if I were looking for 200 gr. partitions. Nothing wrong with those "blemished" bullets....

It's been several years since I killed a moose with a bullet that wasn't a blem.

I guess the 200s are OK but for my type of hunting the 165s at over 3100 just plain shoot flat and nothing ever walks away from a proper shot.

Trajectory mimics my 270.

As many have stated I suspect the 200 grain partitions will work fine on whatever. Why the dislike for the 180 TTSx's? So far I've had great results with 180 TTSX's @ 3050 out of my M70 300 H&H.
