I think I MIGHT? turn into one. I picked up a well hunted L61R Garcia import in 300 Win mag for a winter project / toy with a plan to fix it up and learn something about the round. Plan was to also post it up here for sale in the spring. I have never seen a rig so dirty before. 1/2 can of Break Clean and the trigger is still gummed up. Best I can get and have a good reset is around 5#. Anyway I got it clean and bore scoped then applied DBC. Fired 9 rounds without a scope on it and then cleaned again. After getting my rings, I mounted a 2.5-8 and hit the range. If you seen my " what can't you do with a 300 Win" thread. I loaded up 4 of my 30-30 Super load. 67gr of R19 under a Hornady 150gr. RN. Well the first shot hit a little less than 4" right at 50 yards. Moved her over a tad and put 3 in .89". No chrono but book says around 2800. Pretty much perfect for the bullet, 3 come in at .89" Next I jump in on some IMR4350 and 180gr. Speer Hot Core SP. Going at 1/2gr. steps from 68.5gr. to book max "Nosler partition" of 70gr. The 5 groups of 3 shots put a avg. of 1.34" at 100 with the best at .82gr. at 1gr. below max. Never owned a Sako but I'm thinking I might have to hold onto this one. I also picked up a 264 Win mag Bofors Steel barrel for the same gun. Bore scoped and throat looks great. I don't think I'll be rebarreling anytime soon so I'd like to sell it. It's in great shape inside and out. What's a fair asking price?
Want To Buy; Form die for a 7mm Mashburn Super. .284 Hornady AMax 162gr. .224 Hornady AMax 75gr. 22-250 bushing die Bushing die that will work with the 7mm Mashburn Super A couple Glock 42 380ACP mags

Les, can't really qualify as a Sock-0 snob until you can pronounce it with a "short" O rather than a long "A" ten out of ten times. Course we Texans are exempted and can be snobs all we wan't as it's impossible given our linguitic heritage to pronounce the word with less than three syllables and the long "A" as in Saaaa-aa-ko. One of my fav's Ol' l61R Varmint in 7 mag., and yes its a shooter! Best, GWB

Tanner T, I continually hear good things about Tikkas and see very few trades where I do most of my perusal. May have to try a couple in the new year. But being from Texas, is it a Tee -eee-ka or a Tick-a? Best, GWB

First thing I look for within these posts are pictures of the "sock-o" rifle described. I expect the rifle to shoot bugholes, so target pics are ancillary. In addition, if there are no rifle pics, it doesn't exist

Tanner Then you should snag the LSA-55 in 308 with really pretty wood I have for sale/trade. LES760..... My all time favorite and most accurate rifles in my safe are a pair of Sako's. Both re stocked. One is a Riihimaki in 222 and the other is an L-461 Varmint in 223. Bugholes are the norm. Welcome to the club, but dang it I wanted to BUY that rifle and barrels combo from you!

GW, that is one nice looking rifle and piece of bacon. I guess I'll never make the cut. To my hillbilly WV azz it will always be just Sako. I was also quite surprised at how well it handled the recoil. Very, very mild compared to the WSM Montana I had. But that happens when you slum with a fat chick. Right Tanner? Over all I'm impressed. But it won't replace my lightweight 7-08. . I did need something wood and blue.

I have been a Sako snob since I bought my first Sako. I always thought I was pizz poor rifle shot until I shot my first Sako. Then I realized I was not such a bad rifle shot but I had no rifles that could shoot.
I still own a few Rugers, Brownings, Remington's and Kimbers but when I am looking to kill something I will have a Sako.

Mark. Don't worry, you'll get your chance in the spring. This is just a rental rifle. I really have no use for it and I still need to pay for the Forbes I have on order. I just couldn't watch it sit on the rack for another 12 years. And I just wanted something to play with thru the winter. Hell, by then the load work will be done. Just load and hunt. Plus I have to get the trigger tuned. For the life of me I can not get it where it needs to be. Bad news is. Factory sights are very spendy. If you can even find them. This dang thing is worth more as parts than it is complete. And it only cost $200 brand new.

You fellows that are Sako aficionados, do you know what the stock torque specs are for these rifles. I've never been sure about mine.

Kitch. That is a very nice Sako you have there. I was going to pick up a set of original rings but there spendy and I just can't stand the looks of the huge knobs.

I was fortunate when I bought the rifle. It came with the rings and scope as well. I've only had it out once to sight in but soon it'll go out to the range for some serious load testing. I've heard the ringmounts are pretty expensive...maybe $150 or so.

Here is one of the few Sakos that Ive bought new. A Sako Bavarian Carbine, 308 Winchester A three shot group for load development Two shots to check zero Here is another fav. A model 75 Varmint w/ set trigger On its maiden trial And my go to load in the 260 Remington And a Sako 75 hunter that started out as a 30-06 and was opened up to a 9.3 x 62 And a caveat. These groups were shot off a rest at the Pearland Shooters Club at 100 yds during load development. I shoot over a chronograph and will sacrifice accuracy for velocity as most of my shots at game are at 200 yards or under. I find that most commercial chambers are cut so long that I don't try to "touch or kiss" the lands. I do use a stoneypoint OAL gauge and reference the dimensions of the magazine. Typically the Sakos I've encountered shoot better than I do. I've probably had 20 follow me home over the same number of years. Only one that I could not get to shoot. It was a Sako 75 Stainless synthetic in 338 Federal. Had two and neither would group consistently. Turned out it was a manufacturers problem with a run of over-sized chambers. Best, GWB
