if you already have 7mm's and 30's then you don't need a new gun for those distances. Unless you just want one! smile

Ed here is a interesting thread. 6.5 -06 why not

(Will IT&D use a barrel blank that you send them?)
I believe so. He needs a similar contour barrel to do a duplicate. Call and ask, but I have been happy with his barrel blanks Douglas.

Is there a better reason? grin

I want the efficiency of the high BC of 6.5 bullets, less recoil, more powder efficiency, and something I've never owned before. Toss in the availability of a good action and stock as donors and you have the recipe for something special.

I would also suggest you would find the 6.8x63 an interesting and more convenient option. Ready supply of bullets to BCs of >.600 these days in 6.8mm.

I looked at that one, too, but couldn't find a ready source for brass.
That's one of the reasons I was looking at the Brenneke. You can make it from .270 or .280 without any real issues and not a lot of work.

Ed

Do you mean the X64 or the X62
The X64 has a base diameter of.496 and can not be made from 06 based cases. The X62 can be made from 06 based cases.???????????????

The 6,5 uses the standard case head, just like the 7x64 or the 8x64S.

The 9,3x64 uses a larger diamer case that gives it the capacity of a 2.5" belted case (7RM, 338WM, ...). This case has seen very little use, in spite of being a very practical case with magnum capacity that fits in a standard action... Only the 6,5 Messner (commercial) and the 8mm MAZON (wildcat) that I am aware of.

Per the Dynamit Nobel case drawing in Ken Howell's book "Designing and Forming Custom Cartridges", pg. 464, the 6.5x65mm RWS has a slightly rebated rim diameter of 0.4705" with a base diameter of 0.4740", making it difficult to use anything except factory brass, something that is not easy to get here.

The 6.5x65 Brenneke, on the other hand, has the identical rim and base diameter as well as overall case length of the .270Win /.280Rem family, making case forming very easy.

Not to hijack this thread, but is there a real barnburner of a 6.5 mm cartridge out there? I'm thinking something like the 6.5 equivalent of the. 257 Roy, never mind barrel life, efficiency, any of that dull stuff. Just wondering...

Yup, take a look at the 6.5 Mashburn Super, aka 6.5 Super Mashburn.

.264 win mag, the upcoming 26 nosler, and the 6.5 wsm(wildcat) all fill the void you are looking at....The 6.5x300wea.mag was a some what popular 1000 yd round years ago.
