Kink Arm? Didn't know it was going (or went?) to a vote.

The airport sits in a saddle elevated above and away from The Cove. It would take more than 17M to make it "all weather", in your terms, for larger fixed wing unless high dollar rotorwing was the mode of transportation. If the road were to be built I envision more people dying on the road after a trip to/from Cold Bay than would be saved because of said road.

I'd not have a problem with the Refuge road if the Cold Bay locals anted up the funding. Or the state of Alaska. Same deal with the Knik Arm bridge, which would cut off some travel time for sure, turn Wasilla into even more of an Anchorage suburb than it already is.
But the sad fact is, Alaska got plenty of pork that would not make sense or be worth it to users if THEY had to pay the freight.

One time my 8 yo niece needed a towel while readying to get out of the shower. She didn't want her dad coming in to hand it to her.

He told her to close her eyes! smile

The Izembek Refuge Land swap has been tossed around for years. Nothing has changed so why are so many upset?

Many places in AK are remote and have piss poor access. When we move into these places we accept this or we should not move there!

Kivilina homes use honey buckets....Should the state or feds dump millions into the community because they choose not to relocate off of that sand bar? no......

Maybe because nothing's changed?

As I'm sure you are aware, just as people don't choose their parents, many/most of the people in the rural areas didn't choose these places. (There's a California thread elsewhere in the forum that might help with an understanding of why people have a hard time moving from where they started out.)

And there's 39 other rural communities in the same boat, even though they don't all have sand bar issues to blame.

If you don't like crapping in a honey bucket, move to where there are no honey buckets.
We left Oklahoma after WWII because we couldn't make a decent living. We moved to Wash. State. We left our traditions and cultures behind.
Hint! Move.
