OK. This thread makes me feel a bit better...I think.

I first bought a Baikal 94 in 22lr/410. Brand new in the box, with 4 chokes. $365. I feel good about that purchase.

Then, along came a Savage 24S E 22WMR/410.

It was on my "route", so no travel costs, and no shipping, etc. He was asking $375. When I first handled the gun, I was disappointed about a few things:

- the receiver was engraved with the previous owner's name. It was deep, and not like a scratching engraving. This was actually better new to me, as at least it was done cleanly.

- small pit spots on the side of the muzzle.

- 22mag firing pin was replaced.

- the stock was refinished and didn't look bad, but it has minor cracks. None of the cracks are deep, or look to be a functional issue, but this is for sure the poorest condition gun I own.

This was an early model, with really small rear sight. Doesn't bother me though and the receiver is grooved for a scope.

I offered him $325 and he took it. I really feel like I should have offer $300, or possibly less. The engraving should have really bought the price down. Not having to pay shipping, etc. I guess made the jump a tad quickly, but I was pressed for time. He three in 15 rounds of CCI HV, which he found to be the most accurate in this rifle.

Like one poster said, I didn't see any on Gunbroker go for less than $400. I was at the local gunshow today and only saw one 410/22 combo gun. It was really like a metal skeleton gun, by design. $300. It looked homemade, but was not. Not sure I would even fire a shell from it though.

Back in the Sixties, I ordered a 24V 222Rem x 20ga , when they were first offered . Right out of the box , it was dead azz accurate ,went right to shootin' chucks out in the far yonder , The barrel band was different than a rimfire version ,which may have contributed to it's accuracy . Pricewise , I got $425 for it a long time ago . It was still in mint cond .

In this day and age, $300 for a Savage 24 in good condition is probably a fair price. I think that the 22Mag/410 is the least common of the four rimfire combinations of 22/410, 22M/410, 22/20, and 22M/20.

My Father was never a 410 fan, but got a Savage 24DL in 22M/20 when they first came out and it stood in the corner of the mud room at home from around 1964 until shortly after my Father died in 2000. That gun shot a bunch of 'chucks and grouse over those years.

I have a Savage 24DL-Series P in 22/20 that is engraved as a wedding gift. I bought it at a gun show in Missouri, which, I guess, says it all. I like the 22/410s and 22M/410s as a woods loafing gun 'cause they're light and point pretty well, but think that the 22M/20 would be a better survival gun.

I agree that would be a fair price ,but in my neck of the woods you stole one for 450, but most likely will be paying 550 plus for any combo other than 22lr/410

I have been on savage24.com. Good info, but not as much activity. Savageshooter is also a great site for Savage owners, though not as much coverage of the 24.

when it comes to versitility I feel my 24V in 222/20 ga has all the rest beat hands down.I used to have several 24's in the rimfire configuration (22lr/22mag in 20 or 410)but then I got a couple of adapters that let me shoot 22lr and 22mag from the 222 barrel and after using the adapter I sold my rimfire guns.

That's not a bad option. If I found a cleaner 222, I might go that route. Where did you get the adapter?

The last 22LR/410 that I bought was a minty Westpoint 242 - Series P in 2008, paid $330 at Cabela's, who are almost always priced at the top of fair retail, and felt that, based on the condition, it was a fair price. Not sure what fair market value would be today, almost six years later.

I've bought 22LR and 22Mag chamber adapters from Ace Dube that worked OK, good enough to kill a rabbit at 30 yards.

If you are looking for a 222/20 try to get the one without the "pinned barrel" (usually marked 24V-A)because you get a better chance of being able to switch barrels with other 24V's

I currently have several 24Vs and have probably owned twenty-five or thirty over the years. The one thing that I have noticed about the centerfire 24s is that few that I have owned or shot were very accurate, that most were inaccurate once the very light barrels got the least bit warm, and none were accurate once the barrels got hot.

My current CF 24s are 222 (x2), 223 (x2), 30-30, and 357, all over 20 gauge.

Which 357 do you have? the max. or the mag.

Have had three 24s over the years... A very early .22LR/.410 that I left in Texas with a friend who still hunts with it.. The next was a 24J-DL .22 Mag/20 that someone replaced the walnut Monte Carlo stock with a Tenite one...just what I wanted in a truck gun which is where it has resided for about 10 years. And a few years ago I bought an identical gun with the walnut stock but later sold it when I decided I was never going to ware out the first one...

This 24J-DL is extremely accurate with standard 40 grain ammo...but it will throw the new 30-34 grail bullets all over the place. Buckshot and birdshot pattern real well but have never found a slug that the choke likes...and I have tried them all. Federal TruBall works ok but 50 yard groups are still patterns..

Mine wears a 1.5-5 Leupold in a BKL one piece mount that has 6 cross screws in the base...nothing moves.

As to price, anything decent from any era starts at $400 and works it way up. The last 24J-DL .22M/20 ga. I saw sell on GunBroker was close to $600.00.

24V Series D, 357 Magnum over 20 gauge.

I use the B-Square Weaver adapters to mount scopes on my rimfire Savage 24 combination guns.

I had a opportunity to pick one up in that configuration at a gun show and didn't because it had a cracked stock ,regret it now. I'm sure I could have found wood for it
