All,
Looking for a good replacement trigger for a commercial FN Mauser (JC Higgins). I want a mechanically simple cold weather hunting trigger, definitely not a target trigger. I would have the factory trigger tuned but I'm guessing there are better triggers out there.
If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
Thanks all!

I swapped out the Higgins trigger for a Timney Sportsman. Drop in fit.
The mating surface on the Higgins cocking piece slopes to the rear so there isn't full contact with theTimney sear. I didn't care for the feel so I also swapped out the cocking piece.

My choice today if I were doing it.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Timney triggers are indeed excellent, and I'm also impressed by a Bold trigger in my FN rifle (barreled action, custom stock).
I think the Bold trigger is quite a bit cheaper, but mine is excellent - light, crisp, reliable.

I have used and install about all of them and all around you cant go wrong with a timney. for hunting trigger I kinda like the Dayton traser as it is more open an looks less susceptible to dirt and freeze up. altho I have never had a problem with timney. take a look at the hubber concept. they are really nice work off a ball bearing. they are probably the best mauser trigger if you are willing to spend the extra money..

Alaska Arms makes a model 70 style trigger for Mausers.

Like that Alaska Arms trigger a lot. I would also recommend the NECG trigger that is a Recknagel part. Have had very good experience with them, as well.

I have Timneys and Alaska Arms triggers on several of my 98's, but also have reworked military triggers on at least three. These can be tuned for a very nice single-stage pull, and if ruggedness is paramount are probably the toughest.

The Alaska Arms triggers look a lot like the Dressel triggers at Brownells.

Is the trigger on the Higgins rifles the same as a military trigger? My Higgins '06 has a nice, crisp trigger, but everything seems to depend on that flimsy looking return spring, so I was thinking about swapping it out for a Timney or maybe a Huber. Somebody swapped out the nice, relatively convenient left-side wing safety for a Bueller (bad move!). Can I install a Timney with the side safety and keep the Bueller for locking the bolt?
I love these guns. If you can find a clean one, they are a tremendous bargain.
What fresh Hell is this?

Thanks everyone!
I'm looking for a simple rugged trigger I can depend on in cold weather. The Dressel sounds great but pricey. I'll have to find out more about NECG and some others mentioned.
Also - can anyone recommend a smith who can properly work the stock trigger in my commercial FN? That might be a good option but there isn't anyone near me I would hand my rifle to.
Thanks again Kragman

Timney Featherweight is awesome.; a nice step up from the Sportsman in refinement IMHO.
