I have a winchester 92 in both calibers and was wondering if anybody has a load for either. I am currently using an lyman 85 grain bullet mould with a gas check for my 32-20 and a 180 grain lead bullet for my 38-40. I am using IMR 4227 for both.

Here's what my old (circa 1970) reloading book sez... just remember that while the SAME powders are still available, they are from DIFFERENT LOTS and their burning rates may vary somewhat... so proceed with "working up" your loads but BE CAREFUL and reduce these MAXIMUM LOADS by a full 10%... then "work up" carefuly while watching for pressure signs. Here is what my book has:

.32/40 LOADS

Bullet diameter (Jacketed or cast) .320 & .321
Maximum case length 2.130
Trim-to-Length 2.120

TEST COMPONENTS:
Remington cartridge cases
Remington 9 primers
Remington 170 grain H.P.C.L.

TEST (Velocity) SPECS.

Accuracy load: 15.3 grains of IMR4227 = 2100 feet/per/second (fps)
Factory Duplication Load: 15.2 grains of IMR4227 = 2080 fps
* = Compressed load

115 GRAIN CAST BULLET W/GAS CHECK
Bullet #311316 (#2 Alloy)
IMR4227 --------- 14.0 ------------ 1865 fps

Remember, all of these loads are MAXIMUM LOADS. You should reduce the maximum powder load by approximately 10% and slowly work up to the load you like to use with great CARE!
