The .338 Express and .444 are back in the line for 2014. The samples on display at the Ellett Bros. show exhibit the typical lackluster finish work of the "Remington Marlins". I could live with the blueing but they really need to learn how to apply checkering. The forend checkering, while poorly machine cut, was at least usable. The checkering on the pistol grips was so shallow that it was like somebody sanded it off with sandpaper. This is consistent with most of the Marlins we've had come through our store over the last couple years. It is really sad what Remington has done to this once fine company. I really want a .338 and badly regret not buying one before Remington got involved. If they'll get their sh*t together and learn to make a nicely finished rifle again, I'll take a chance on a Marlington. Otherwise, I'll wait until a used "old" one presents itself... Am glad to at least see they are bringing back those calibers again though.

I'd like a 444 again. Can't see a reason for the 338. There is what, 1 bullet out there for it? I'll pass and keep using the 356.

I'm glad to read the 444 Marlin is back in the line up. Now, if Remington can get the QC up to standard, I'll be very interested in one.

Word from the guys that I know, currently attending SHOT is that the guns they saw in the Marlin booth were top shelf. Then again, what else would you expect . . . ? Hopefully by the time they (338 Express and 444) are ready to hit the streets and dealer shelves, the same quality will be evident in ALL of their guns.

I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

That is very encouraging news.
