Yep, I just got used to calling them by the cylinder bore.
Nominal, that is. I had a Ruger .44" that went .455"/.443".
The Uberti went .454"/.452" So even though marked'44' these are more like a 45 caliber? The conicals being a hollow base should/could allow them to expand out and fill the rifling in the barrel, even if a bit undersized at the outset. I bought them thinking this beast would have a 44 bore vs a 45 caliber bore. I will have to measure it later this evening. Yes, yes, yes..."44" black powder revolvers are typically .45 caliber, shooting .451-.454" round balls. The Ruger may be different but it isn't a replica of anything. It doesn't matter whether you're talking a Remington "1858" or the various Colt ".44's", they're actually 45's. This is common knowledge. You don't want to shoot some .440" bullet in one. If you don't know, please ask before creating a potentially dangerous situation. As an aside, the Walker was a powerful revolver in its day, certainly approaching .357 Mag. power levels. It is not equivalent to a modern 44-40 handloaded though. The 44-40 has been loaded down for years due to the proliferation of old Merwin Hulberts and '73 toggle-link Winchesters and such. A 44-40 filled with FFFG is a powerful round. It is even more so properly handloaded in a Ruger Super Blackhawk or Vaquero. The case is of larger volume than the 44 Magnum's. So no, a Walker won't equal a 44-40, IMO.

Black powder pistols are not worth the trouble to me, loading and cleaning take the fun from shooting it. Mine sits in the safe unless I dress up as a cowboy for Halloween

I will mike the bullets and my barrel shortly/ Thanks for the tips and intel gentlemen! I guess maybe this should be stated again...when you get done firing your pistol, even one time, take it apart and wash it with dishsoap under hot water. Rinse it well with the hottest water you can stand. I mean scrub the barrel out with dishsoap and rinse it too. All the cylinders, everything. Grips off. It will air dry almost immediately. Spray it with a water displacing solvent like WD-40. Follow up with plenty of your favorite gun oil. A black powder revolver can be ruined after one shooting session if you don't clean it well.

Indeed! Where can one like that be had? I am still holding out hope that I will be able to go on that outing again. Ebay. Just search for "Walker Holster" and you'll find a couple different guys sell them there. Check the auction carefully to see if they have them on hand, or have to make them. Last year I wanted one for the hunt, but waited until the last minute and no one actually had one in stock.

Dixie Gun Works carry Walker holsters, and much else for BP guns.
